I got a listen to Christopher Young's Spidey 3 score
« on: April 24, 2007, 05:50:59 PM »
I'm not going to say how or anything (it's not leaked on torrents), but I got to listen to Young's score for Spider-Man 3.  And I'm not sure how complaints about the music are founded.  It's superior to Spider-Man 2 in every way and Young explores more memorable themes and cues for villains, heroes and such.  He reworks Elfman's cues into the score without them sounding tacked on.  I wonder if people are like, "Elfman didn't score this, so it automatically sucks - who is Christopher Young anyway?  He's awful!"  There's much more variety in this score than Elfman did with either of his Spidey scores.

Does it ripoff Hellraiser 2 again, or are they ripping off 3 since this is the third flick in its respective franchise?

I never saw Hellraiser III, so I couldn't tell you.  Hopefully it's a bit more original than your trolling!

Great to hear Willco. I don't think the Spider-man movies are perfect and I have more than one complaint about them, but they're still some of the best comic adaptations ever, especially Spider-man 2 (which would be somewhere in my top... two) and one of those complaints is the music. I like Elfman, he's an undeniable musical genius, but here lately he just hasn't been hitting any home runs.

Any news as to when the soundtrack will be available?

The focus is on the INSPIRED BY album right now, because those things always sell a ridiculous amount and Sony doesn't want to cannibalize their own Spidey music sales by confusing would-be owners ("omg i bought the score instead of the soundtrack lolz this sux wheres nickelback?").  The actual score will be released sometime in the future.

Better question is does it rip dashboard confessional to fit the new themes?

the inspired by one has a song from it, the kirsten dunst one on the cd is the song she sings at the club in the movie, no?

I have no idea what the track listings are for the inspired by album, because I didn't ask, nor do I care.  In the past, Sony has put one or two tracks from the score on there.

To be quite honest, Im glad Elfman's gone. The ONLY piece Ive loved out of the entirety of both his S-M scores is the main theme. Moreso the S-M2 version which was rearranged by, yes, you guessed it, Christopher Young. Ill give this score more than a fair shot to wow me.

Raimi fell in love with S-M2's temp score apparently, and didnt want Elfman to change it for the final film. This hurt Elfman's ego, and they had a falling out. Now Elfman says he wont work with Sam again, and that Sam "wasnt even the same person" by the end of S-M2's production. There must be some truth to Sam's changing personality, since John Dykstra jumped ship to freaking Hot Wheels, lolz. Which is probably why the effects in S-M3 arent looking so hot.

I think over-working and over-stressing under the mammoth pressure of helming an $800M domestic franchise is what has probably caused Sam to change and become more cold and cruel.

I wonder if he has it in him to do an Evil Dead 4. I noticed in these little spidey 3 press tour interviews he mentions that he wants to do one eventually with bruce.

I am looking forward to the musical number.  I hear it is ridiculous and completely over-the-top.  And Dykstra left not because any difficulties with Raimi, but because they were going to drop a lot of practical stuff in favor of CG due to the villains when he wanted a mix of both.  He just wasn't interested in that for some reason.

Also, apparently Elfman was brought back on board to collaborate with Young last December.

There's so much hate for this film that I will pass!  The early reviews are coming in and it's been pretty positive, although everyone is complaining about the amount of stuff crammed in and that it doesn't live up to Spider-Man 2.  The consensus so far is that its as flawed and enjoyable as Spider-Man (some have said its better).  The only downright negative review I've seen is Variety.  And Todd McCarthy hated Batman Begins so who cares about him.

I can see it getting more mixed reviews, though.

I think Im gonna like it a hell of a lot more than I would predict. Ive been expecting shit for so long that 3 could possibly blow me away. Whereas I expected greatness from S-M2, and thankfully I got it.

A bunch of positive reviews came in and I was wondering if I should post them or let you walk into the theatre with low expectations.

Excelllllllent. I want nothing more than for Raimi to actually pull this off. Hopefully RT gets updated soon.

It sucked but it was still far better than it deserved to be. The production on that film was on the verge of complete disaster every day.

I PM'd Solo the latest Spidey reviews.  He can do whatever he wants with them.  I think walking into this film with low expectations is best.  Expect a Return of the Jedi like capper to the trilogy, where everything is resolved, but people are saying to brace for a film that's as good or a bit better than the original Spider-Man.  Not Spidey 2.
