Poor Sony. First we stole Crash Bandicoot, and now it's Taiko Drum Master, which previously appeared (outside of the arcade) on the PS2. But the move only makes sense, for a number of reasons; in 2004, the PS2 was on top. Now it's the DS, and publishers can't fit their popular properties on the dual-screened handheld quickly enough. Second of all ... it's a rhythm game, and as we've seen, there's really no better platform for rhythm games.

Namco Bandai is trying to be all secretive about the controls, but let's see ... rhythm game ... DS ... anyone out there have any idea how this might work? If you said "touch screen," you're probably correct. If you said something else, like "donkey face" or "mudpie," you might want to check for, uh, insanity. Or something.

Game|Life's Chris Kohler has a translation of the partial songlist from the Japanese version (including the Mario theme!), which is set for this summer. There are also a couple of scans, and you can check those out after the jump.

My wonderful review of the Taiko series on PS2 is around the 27:30 mark here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4121567888800856588

How would this even work? Taiko is great because it features you beating the shit out of drums. DS ain't no drumming machine.

There is no better platform for rythm games?  Really?

Wii was made for this shit. Seriously. Where is my Samba De Amigo Wii?

eh, why not?

and I too wish to vocalize my support for a Wii Samba De Amigo sequel/compilation/anything.  Such a no-brainer.

Maybe I will.  Andrew is at home and still talking about that farewell episode.  Cooking Mama Wii sucked and is getting more dated as time goes by, so I'll need something else to review.

Won't this game be out like in 3-4 months? Why delay the farewell episode until the game comes out?

Hey, this is cool, but I would like to address that DSfanboy (clearly unbiased from its name) article writer:

Taiko Drum Master isn't going anywhere exclusively, fangirl.  It's been ported and continues to be ported to the PS2, and before this DS release, has also seen two PSP versions released.  Do your research.

Yes, the *DS* is the best system for music-based games.  Right.  I'm not a fan of Ouendan (I tried, but could not get into the game play), but I think it's a cool idea.  But a rhythm game released on another platform not only has better sound quality, but more music as well.  Look at DJ Max Portable 1 and 2 on PSP.

Great. So let's replace the authors' DS fanboisms with Lyte Edge's PSP rah rah! ::)

Here's something you might consider: RHYTHM GAMING ISN'T MADE FOR PORTABLES. That much I could agree with. Not, "well if you REALLY want to play some good rhythm gaming, get yourself a PSP!"

DietRite seemed to miss that the author of that article was just talking about a franchise, previously exclusive to Sony systems, now being multi-platform...hence the Crash Bandicoot reference.  No one said Nintendo was taking it over as an exclusive.

Awesome misguided fanboy rant though.

I wasn't ranting about the PSP.  I was just returning the favor.   :P  The OP is only talking about portables, so I was too.

I disagree.  You can look at the success of games like Ouendan, DJ Max, and especially mutha effin' RHYTHM TENGOKU, which is on the GBA of all systems, and see that rhythm games work just fine.  Konami even released Beatmania for the GBC and has released LCD portable versions of Beatmania and DDR.

I find the draw of Taiko No Tetsujin to be the arcade version's drum controls; never played a home version so I don't know how well the PS2 controllers are made, but taking those away for the PSP version made it seem kind of boring to me, so I never tried it.  The DS at least has the touch screen for tapping, but with just one tiny stylus, that seems boring to me too.  I'm digging the Mario stuff though.

 ???

If only the article had worded it that way.  You know, without some kind of bias.  But I guess it's obvious from just looking at the URL.

I dunno, maybe that writer is one of your friends or something...why else would you post it from a fanboy site instead of the source it originally came from instead?

I have no idea who runs that site.  **TEH ROMZ SITE REMOVED** was down and I was looking for what new DS releases came out this week when I saw the news story - then I reposted it.  The "fanboy" article never says anything about exclusivity, you did.

If you want Japanese DS release info, I'd recommend import sites like Play-Asia or NCS.  They always post the full schedules of upcoming releases.

This says "exclusive" to me.  Moving to the DS, leaving Sony behind.

This list works fine for me, sorted by date and flagged by region: **TEH ROMZ SITE REMOVED**
As for the article, "First we stole Crash Bandicoot, and now it's Taiko Drum Master" says multi-platform, to me.  Moot point.  It's a multi-platform franchise now, and I'm happy about it.

Well, that's a rom release site, so it's only going to be showing what's been released as far as I know.  I also don't think Willco n' co want those kinds of links posted here, so that URL has been removed...
