Is there any time of the month you're getting one?  I want to get one in a couple months.

Do people still doubt Wii is the most wanted console out there?

Eh? It's sales were less cause of supply constraint. You cant find it in stores.

I do hope 360 gets America, but meh it seems unavoidable that wii is winning.

I still can't figure it out how it happened, but it did.

I don't think it's any surprise that the type of person who would buy a Wii would shop at Gamestop.

It's amazing how you get a better grip on how sales and demand are as soon as you start working at GameStop.

Seriously, especially in this area, it's easy to see why they still make fishing/hunting games. Kentucky alone probably brings in all sorts of sales in this genre from how many of these games I sold/reserved for people. I mean, it gives fat rednecks another excuse to stay on their ass and drink beer all day: now they don't even have to get up early to go hunting.

Edit: I truly didn't mean for this to degenerate in to this post you see here, but oh well.

Honestly, GameStop is a VERY, VERY accurate meter of the gaming mainstream and the nonhardcore. I didn't even care about NPD whenever I worked there, because I had personal experience.

ToxicAdam... It's been a crazy demographic across the board.  Mostly people in their 20s, some kids, some old fogeys.  We're supposed to get six for Sunday and people are already talking about lining up early.  Apparently, we got some last month and people came at like 6 AM.

This is anecdotal but the three ppl I know that had one have gotten bored of it and sold their wii's off already. According to them the novelty seems to wear off quickly and the game library is shallower than GC, which I didn't think was possible. I thought about buying one from one of them but passed on it.

People who even have experience with the GCN library arent the primary audience buying wii.  Many buying it just care about wii sports and wii play...etc

The Wii is currently following the GC Legacy. High sellthrough of hardware but crap software. Lack of support will place the Wii (longterm) in a 2nd or 3rd slot position.

PS3 is so sad right now im thinking Wii will get 2nd place with X360 being the overall winner thanks to extremely solid support from 3rd parties, a fantastic and currently unbeatable online component, and a commitment to fire on all cylinders as much as possible. Whether or not they fire on each one effectively is up for debate, but unlike both Nintendo and Sony, they arent turning a blind eye to a lot of things.

Someone did a sales comparison at gaf. GCN was under 100k from like feb-may. So I dunno.  I would prefer 360 to be the leader but I am doubtful as of late.

If Japan were a non-factor (and as much as the average MS fan wishes it wasn't), that'd probably end up being the case... but there's always the question of Japanese support. Nintendo winning in Japan (and this looks to be the situation with Wii tripling sales of PS3 and 360 being a nonfactor) will mean they get a majority of 3rd party support, which will help their cause worldwide. I'm hoping that more Japanese companies follow Capcom's lead and develop on the 360 due to its success out west.

I know Japanophiles get a lot of hate lately, but I'll say it straight-out: 99% of the games I enjoy are Japanese-created. So, whichever console gets the most Japanese support, gets the most support from me.

360 may not be the hardware leader until next year. People are only buying a Wii for WiiPlay and WiiSports. This is one of those situations where it honestly comes down to games to play.

360 has had very solid Hardware numbers for march AND 4 games in the top 10. Id rather take an overall above average performer than two companies that can only sucker people with hardware then leave them in the cold.

As for Third Party Support: WHERE?! If its so obvious the Wii is 'winning' in Japan, then WHERE is the third party support? Besides. Microsoft is currently turning a profit on 360 and could continue to do so QUITE easily on the US and UK markets. Japan isnt entirely required anymore. These factors come into play:

1.) X360 has done FINE and is turning a profit WITHOUT japanese success.
2.) RE for Wii is a great example of what devs honestly think about Waggle.
3.) PS3 is failing everywhere and is a huge pain in the ass to develop for.

Tiesto, right now 360 has the best Japanese support DESPITE being a failure in Japan. What does this tell you? It says that Japanese are finally recognizing they can't get money if they solely concentrate on Japan.

If anything the original Xbox proved, it was that it was not exactly necessary for a console to be sucessful in Japan to be sucessful anywhere else.

Japan doesn't decide the fate of consoles anymore.

Im guessing in the coming months we'll see more and more 3rd party titles announced for Wii, I mean with the system still selling this much almost half a year after launch who wouldnt want to make games for it?

The games should have been announced by now, or at least HINTED at especially if we're hoping for some solid Christmas releases.

Scene: Its gamecube hardware with a waggle. The structure of a game development firm is one that works best in a progressive environment, which the Wii is not. A new control gimmick is NOT progressive, just different.

Not that it even matters tho, the Wii will never capture the demographics the 360 clearly appeals to with its lackluster hardware and focus on 'friendly' group games. Which is why I dont understand the msnbc article constantly referencing this shrinking demographic the ps3 appealed to when the 360 is selling just fine.

actually, MS just released their 3Q report, the entertainment and hardware division is still losing money.  Although a lot of that might be the Zune tanking, MS is still at best inconsistantly profitable on the Xbox.

Things are looking up though, with the PSTriple imploding as badly as it has, the 360 looks a LOT better in comparison to pretty much any developer anywhere in the world.  Heck, even the situation in Japan isn't THAT dismal, sure its still a bomb over there, but its not so far behind the PS3 that it would make any future development for it impractical.

The wii hasn't been around for five years, what's the point of comparing it to GameCube's library?

I think the comparison is between the GC's library at the same point of the consoles lifetime as the Wii is now

At this point the GC had Smash Bros and Rogue Leader and not much else. It looks like the wii will have much more third party development than the GC (though most of it looks like utter crap).

Yeah, this is pretty much nothing compared to the GameCube.  By this time in the GameCube's life cycle, there were plenty of units available on shelves.  We can't stock Wii's for more than a second and it's not just our store - it's our entire district.  It's going to keep selling.

It'll be interesting to see how many people lineup for the Xbox 360 Elite and how many people line up for the Wii shipment come Sunday morning.

I'm not spinning anything!  I don't even own a Wii.

I'm just saying, the thing is popular.  Really popular.  If I'm there for four hours, I get at least five or seven walk-ins asking about it and a little bit more in phone inquiries.  If it was in stock, it'd sell through the roof.  And our district is not BACKWATER, CALIFORNIA - its a pretty big one numbers wise.

It's attach rate is kind of crappy, though.  We sell lots of Xbox 360 stuff, in terms of next-gen software.  Not a lot of Wii crap and hardly any PlayStation 3 stuff.
