Ultimate Ghost n Goblins - Channeling a Nintendo Fan to Write This

I really dont think anyone can ever top Capcom's grasp of ...magic. I'm sure Nintendo fans will claim that the teat of their mother company has produced some amazing shit, and I will agree, it is arguable. However, Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins proves yet again that there is something in Capcom's water supply that just can't be beat.

This is one of those gaming threads where I say a game is great, but I cant put it into words. It's me struggling at my keyboard trying to put so many moments into words, and I just cant. How do I describe the levels? I cant. I can only say that they need to be experienced. There's a kind of love for the craft that goes into a lot of, but sadly not all, of Capcom's titles that allows them to provide experiences far more memorable than a GTA, or a MGS, or a Half Life 2. Its this strange sort of ...primal gameplay formula that appeals to my basic instincts, the instincts that dont allow me to analyze, that dont allow my cynical jaded approach to games take root and destroy the game brick by brick.

Its just. I play this game, and its like Tech Romancer, RE4, Mega Man Powered Up, Dragon Quarter all fucking over again. Parish claims UGnG fans are taken by nostalgia for GnG, but there's so many new things and an entirely different level of care taken in the games creation, its impossible to be nostalgic for THE GAME. Yeah, i'm not nostalgic for the game, im nostalgic for the spirit of Capcom.

GOD BLESS U CAPCOM ARHHGHGGHGHGHG

I'm vaguely interested in getting this, but the series tends to kick my ass so throughly I'm not sure it'll actually be fun for me to play...

Actually UGnG has a really easy mode, and then standard, then ultimate. I have never been terribly good at the series, but even on standard I have made some headway.

The infinite continues and warp wands make the game managable on standard, but its still pretty damn challenging. People have told me the easy mode is pretty easy tho.

The weapons and various armor types and shield types make it a lot of fun. For a while I had this armor that glowed blue and red, a shield of a demon face, and a crossbow that shot magical electric arrows. It rocked. I had to go to daggers in the castle im in right now, stupid red doll things.
