At work, recently, I've found a new parking spot. It's around the back of our building, and it allows me a little more privacy to eat my lunch outside and enjoy the sun. However, in North Carolina spring is in full bloom. The weather in the spring and fall here is just perfect, and as such we get a lot of wildlife that comes migrating through here. The most obnoxious of these are the Canadian Geese.
These geese are agressive, loud, and leave a mess. They also like to fly over my state on their migratory patterns, so I've become used to seeing them. They are NOT scared of humans, and they WILL kick your ass. I've known people that have gotten their arms broken from a wing, and I'm sure with the right angle they could take an eye out Kill Bill style with their beaks.
I've noticed a pair of geese hanging around my new parking spot, but I didn't give them much thought. They usually don't mess with you unless you start walking into their area. As the parking lot is long, I saw them patrol up and down, looking for seemingly the least populated area. One morning last week, I pulled into my spot and noticed one of the geese had decided to sit under a tree directly across from my car. The goose was in that same spot during my 10 am break, during my lunch, and during my 2 pm break. When I was at break, here is what the goose looked like:

When I left work at four however, things had changed. I was walking to my car in the perpetual haze that follows an 8 hour mind-numbing day and reaching for my keys. I heard a slight plodding and slapping sound but didn't pay it any mind. It got louder and faster as I approached my car when finally I looked up. The goose was charging me! His/her wings spread out wide as s/he ran at me. Startled, I stepped back as the goose hissed at me viciously. As we both stood our ground, I tried to asses the situation, which basically involved me needing to get into my car as fast as possible.
However, the step back I had taken had allowed the goose leverage to my door. I looked around for something to throw at the goose. The other goose was right behind his/her partner, watching me out of the corner of it's eye, as I picked up a pine cone. I tossed it (like a girl, I can't throw, never could) and it hit the goose in the leg lol. S/he stepped back a little and dropped it's wings, as I lunged to my door and quickly unlocked it. As I backed out, the goose stood it's ground, hissing at my bumper as it came close to it lol. I figured that the goose must have given birth sometime between my last break and when I left work.
The past couple of days have been relatively uneventful, I guess the children are getting older/safer. However, just as I started to get comfortable with the geese, one of them stepped to me on Friday :rollin. I was enjoying my sun as he started slapping his little feet across the street. I stood up and demonstrated that I wouldn't back down again, even going so far as to raise my shoe like I would throw it at him. "Fuck you goose, I am not bothering you" I said, and he seemed satisfied as he took his sorry ass back across the street. I took this video of him attacking my car, I wanted to get one of him hissing but he didn't do much this time. Maybe tomorrow I can get a better video of the bastard.
Enjoy :kerry
