first Pirates sucked and felt like it was four hours long. Not even the presence of Chow Yun-Fat could make the third one any good.

Both are going to kick ass... I'm honestly hyped about them equally. I couldn't pick. Loved Spider-man 2, loved Dead Man's Chest... great entertainment. I've yet to be let down by any Spider-man or Pirates movie. I thought Dead Man's Chest improved on the first in every possible way, same with Spider-man 2.

POTC2 was a FUN theatre experience, but revisiting the film on DVD, its an almost unwatchable piece of bloat that runs on an hour too long. S-M2 has stood up very well, and is still a very good film.

Apparently Disney won't let him as part of any of the press of the movie, since he doesn't represent Disney "values" well enough.

I won't go to the degree you have on POTC2, but yeah, I was feeling the same thing whenever I revisited POTC2: it just wasn't as good on the second showing out of the theatre. S-M3 all the way.

I'm looking forward to both with equal hype at this moment though.

the problem with spidey 3 is that it doesnt have ENOUGH character development and is rushed action scene after rushed action scene. Spidey 2 will be the best of the 3 due to its focus on Parker and his life.

See, the way I look at it -- and it's understandable if you don't agree -- to me in an ongoing story, I think it's okay if most of the character development and whatnot lies in the first two movies. To me I kinda see it as chapters in a book. This is the final chapter of this part of the Spider-man movie story, and I already feel as if I know the characters well enough to just get down to business. And it's not like Spider-man 3 won't have its own development aspects, such as Peter becoming something of an asshole when he gets infected by the symbiote and him having to overcome that, as well as Harry's and Mary Jane's own personal dilemmas.

I dunno, I know the characters, now give me the craziness.

Yeah ok we definitely don't see eye-to-eye about the Potter films, but I do agree that Prisoner of Azkaban is the best directed of them. I consider X-men 3 one of the worst movies I've ever seen though.

What is likely is 1 will go down as a classic with 2 and 3 being the lesser sequels if 3 is anything like 2. Similar to the Matrix.

A very good 3 can retro-actively pull up the much weaker part 2, hopefully.

I guess I just liked the story more in the second (Davy Jones and all that jazz), the effects more, the soundtrack more, the photography, I found just about everything in Pirates 2 far superior than the first. I saw the first as nothing more than a good time, and that's fine, but when I saw the second I think I was just a bit more drawn into the universe that they're establishing. There's nothing about the first one that I can say was handled better.

And also, that's exactly why the interwebs is the last source of opinions I seek on just about everything.

Pirates 1: Fresh: 79% (RT)
Pirates 2: Rotten: 54% (RT)

Pirates 2 was panned by the critics compared to 1. It is not THAT bad, 2 was good but the general consensus that 2 is a much weaker film than 1 is pretty much spot on.

Well sequels generally review worse than originals, again I just can't think of a single reason why the first is better. And critics, meh. If anything that RT score just shows that, just like every other movie on the face of the planet besides Uwe Boll stuff and Van Helsing, is that some people like it, some people don't.

Well of course it had more "originality," it was the first one. Also, about the first having more heart, well, I thought the second one had some really good stuff in it, like the relationship between Will and Bootstraps, and besides I don't really go to these movies for "heart and soul," I mean they're adventure flicks based on a Disneyworld ride.

Again when all is said and done I simply felt Dead Man's Chest was just a much better movie in every regard.
