My plans for tonight

Heroes and 24! I'll watch those tonight. And I got a big 400 page book on the making of star wars that came out last week, I think I will continue reading that afterwards.

Same. But without the Heroes. But maybe with the Star Wars book! That sounds cool.

It's really good so far. It doesn't try to play nice to Lucas. Some elements are pretty harsh, its damn detailed.

I watched the first 8 or so episodes of Heroes over the weekend.  Then I stopped.  Because it's really shitty.  The writing is horrendous.  Resolution comes from contrivances, coincidences, characters being stupid to the point of distinguished mentally-challenged, and glossing over events that demand more scrutiny.

I've heard the show gets better, but it's too aggravating to watch.

Well I'm not on the Lucas hate bandwagon so even if it did it wouldn't have an effect  :lol

What's there to say? The writing may be average but I don't know, it's just awesome. You will rarely find a tv show that has excellent writing. However, the way they pull it off is nothing short of awesome.

The writing is below average.  It's like 24 bad, dude.  The dialogue isn't particularly bad for TV, the acting isn't bad, but the construction of the show is godawful.  Lemme pick some of the worst examples:

1) The episode after Super Girl is killed by the would-rapist and wakes up in the morgue.  The coroner walks away and she heals.  She walks out the door.  The next scene shows her walking in her front door at home.  How did she get home?  Morgues have ARMED GUARDS?  Are we supposed to expect she just jaunted out, no problems?  Her escaping the morgue could've been a neat little story in itself, but hey let's just skip it even though there should be explanation.

2) Flying dude in Vegas.  He escapes the people trying to kidnap him by flying away.  Where does he land?  Why, right next to a diner!  Sure,  there's nothing near him for miles and miles, but he decides to land in the only place there's people.  Is he distinguished mentally-challenged?  Seems so!

3) When Micah tells DL Nikki's secret.  They never tell us what Micah told DL.  All we know is that he bursts in the room after hearing the secret and has intimate knowledge of how Nikki killed his crew, set him up, and that the money is in the house.  How could Micah know all these things?  Heck, we don't even know what he told DL.

4) More Nikki funness.  When DL first shows up, he informs Nikki about the whole doublecross, which we know Nikki was behind.  Upon hearing that DL knows someone involved, Nikki goes out that night and kills the person.  How did Nikki know where this person was going to be?  The whole thing happened in the middle of the night.  The person Nikki was going to kill was shocked when she entered the room, so it was not like she called him to find out his location or anything.

And all that is off the top of my head.  There were at least 3 awful writing problems in each of the episodes I watched.  The show is very poorly written.

Really?  I wasn't looking into it at all.  Those things jump out at you because they don't make sense.  Pardon me for not enjoying entertainment that is particularly insulting to intelligence.

I just enjoy it for what it is, and since it's got so many comic inspirations I'm not exactly expecting the best writing on the block. And I'm also not expecting everything to make sense.

I don't find Heroes to be particularly insulting; methinks TVC expects too much from his popcorn entertainment

A lot better than Lost, or 24. Hell better than any other network serial (but not fucking with HBO serials)

Is he the emo one or the politician?

Anyway, Christopher Eccleston is on the show, so he is by default the hottest.

Did you miss the part where I am obsessed with Doctor Who, Corny?  I love my popcorn entertainment.  I hate 24 and Lost, too.

So Christopher Eccleson (sp?) on Heroes didn't even get you to cut it a little slack?

And you know how anything british is just elevated merely by being british.

I didn't get to his episodes yet.  I have them all so I will probably end up watching them sooner or later.

And way off mark on Doctor Who getting elevated just because it's British.  There's not a light-hearted adventure show like it anywhere else in the world.  Believe it or not, but it's been very well written (comparatively among genre shows) for a good portion of its entire history.  The 80s sucked, though.
