Morrissey is one of the few artists that has been culturally relevant for like 3+ decades now.  His new stuff is quite good as well.

Um, his last 2 solo albums were the best selling albums in his solo career, and I believe they've also outsold half of The Smith's albums, too.  He's more well-known now than he ever has been.

He also had 4 hit singles last year off of Ringleader of the Tormentors.  He had (iirc) 3 good singles off of You Are The Quarry.

I know You are the Quarry did.  Not positive on Ringleader (haven't been following music news much since its release), but I'd expect it did since it did better with singles.

Are you citing worldwide numbers?

Of course I am.  Morrissey isn't nearly as popular in the US as he is elsewhere.

And I checked, I was right on Quarry, but Ringleader only did gold.  Also, don't lie.  You can't look up soundscan numbers without having a subscription.

So if his album's success are inflated by worldwide sales how can you say he's culturally relevent? He's not a big player in the US industry. You don't have to sell great to do that (see, Dylan), but it definitely helps. I've never gotten the impression that Morrissy or The Smiths were relevent in the US

Thanks to you not being able to edit your posts, we can see the original statement you are feebly trying to defend:

Quote
Not really. It's not like many people know who he is.

You said nothing about the US when you wrote him off as being culturally irrelevant.  You have been proven wrong.  You are a jackass.  Even in the US, You are the Quarry was his highest charting album, meaning that even if you were counting here, he's more relevant than he ever has been.

So kindly, sir, you are owned, get the fuck out of my thread.

He has a group of dedicated fans, most of whom are European, who support his music. That doesn't make him "culturally relevent".

How does having a high charting album make him popular all of a sudden? That's a deceptive title. With the last few years you could have a top 10 charting album off less than 100,000 sales - and then witness a 60% sales drop the next week. So what's your point?

No, I don't like the beat to his songs, and his voice can be pretty blech. I think it's one of those acts that black people wouldn't like either way.

Morrissey is going to be in Ann Arbor later this month.

I have tickets! I can't wait. And PD the tickets sold out within 3 days of going on sale at ticket master for Ann Arbor's concert, so yeah I think he is a "little" popular.

Morrissey is going to be in Ann Arbor later this month.

I have tickets! I can't wait. And PD the tickets sold out within 3 days of going on sale at ticket master for Ann Arbor's concert, so yeah I think he is a "little" popular.

...
