Is Children of Men deserving of a HD-DVD purchase?
« on: May 01, 2007, 01:51:49 PM »
I am interested in Children of Men but some people seem to think that it's highly overrated.  I prefer watching a movie in HD but the Children of Men HD-DVD is 34.99 which is simply too much if the movie is only good enough for a one time watch.  I have $15 in Best-buy rewards certificates but I'm going to save them for a game if I don't get the COM Hd-dvd.  So tell me, is COM just worth a regular dvd rental or a hd-dvd purchase?

BTW, thanks for the Night at the Museum recommendation.  It was a good rental. The special effects were much better than I expected for a comedy.

$35 is too much for any movie. That's almost enough for a fucking boxset.

Just get it on DVD. Fuck HD-DVD and BluRay. Children of Men: 9.5/10

34.99 is kinda a ripoff which is why I usually wait for deals before getting BD/HDDVD movies.  I've been able to get most of my HD movies around $25 which I think is not bad for the quality you get over DVDs.  I'm only willing to get it at $35 because I have $15 in rewards and I haven't gottten a HD movie in awhile.  It's kinda surprising how expensive the COM HDDVD is because most new HD-DVDs aren't more than $25-27.  It's usually only the new Bluray movies that cost $35.

Wait until July and buy the Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz HD-DVDs.

Hot Fuzz is coming out that soon on HD-DVD?  I loved Shaun of the Dead but I haven't had time to watch Hot Fuzz.  I might just wait for the HD-DVD if it's coming out in July.

I wouldn't support either of the pretender formats, but it's certainly worth owning on dvd.

If you have the player, get it. Honestly, I thought about hating on the new HD formats until I realized that all of them are widescreen.

That's right. I hope one of them wins, that way this pan and scan bullshit can get the fuck off of the market.

Support HD-DVD/Blu-ray, because pan and scan fucking sucks ass.

Where?  All the Bluray/HDDVD prices seem to be the same everywhere.

I bought the dual format combo from wal mart for 24.99 when it first released.

It must have been on discount.  Walmart.com lists it now as $29 and it might be more at the retail store.  I didn't know that Walmart sells HD movies too.  I'll start checking out their ads.   You know of any place that regularly has lower prices for HD movies?

I've caught quite a few sales at best buy and fry's for hd dvd movies.  i'd check those regularly.  and i've always found the in store prices for wal mart cheaper than their listed online prices for movies

Sale prices dont really count since you have to:

a.) be psychic
b.) WAIT for a sale that may or may not happen
c.) WAIT to get what you want NOW
