Will the Mavericks get shut down tonight?
« on: May 01, 2007, 03:57:05 PM »
Well it's in Dallas folks, and if you've seen the last two games, you know that Golden State without their crowd could have some trouble, but maybe their dominant lead could have hurt the Mavericks so much to the point where they've given up?

Davis seems to be able to power through anything, and dirk has been playing like shit.  Will nash steal back that MVP title before it's too late?

WHAT WILL HAPPEN LET'S ALL WATCH TONIGHT TO FIND OUT!

I hope not because I don't like the Spurs.  The Mavs are probably the best equipped team to beat the Spurs.  I think people underrated how well Don Nelson knew his ex players in Dallas.  It's all about matchups in the NBA and Dallas doesn't match up well with GS at all.

yeah, i dont think people realized that golden state was 3-0 against the mavs in the regular season... the only team to do that to the mavs.

golden state plays incredible street ball, and the mavericks have no answer.

and i honestly find the suns having no trouble against the spurs.  not just because i like the suns, but because i think they'll just destroy them.  they're on a hot streak too.  the suns have been playing fucking incredible lately.

their only loss was because kobe decided to get hot for once and you can't do anything when that happens.

I don't know.

What I do know is that Dallas can not win three in a row against the Warriors.

They can not stop Davis.
Avery doesn't know what he's doing.
Terry can't make plays for others.

And unless Dirk wakes the fuck up, it doesn't matter if Davis goes 0 for 25, Avery has a good game plan, and Terry learns to dish the ball. Dallas can't win if Dirk is scared to touch the ball.

Dirk and the Mavs are losers. Im not a fan of any team in the NBA these days, but in terms of teams I dont like, the Mavs are up there.

well like here's what the article says:

DALLAS (AP) With stubble on his cheeks and resignation in his voice, Dirk Nowitzki didn't look or sound anything like a dominant player determined to prevent one of the most embarrassing, stunning upsets in NBA history.

----------------------

now what the fuck, golden state has ALWAYS beaten dallas, in their last 7 games they've won 6, why the fuck are people so surprised?  they just match up shitty against golden state.

When they traded away their unathletic white players and when Baron Davis got healthy (he's healthy about one month out of the year).

I don't think Dallas is going to lose in front of their home crowd tonight. But like Malek said, it all depends on Dirk. Is he going to take over the game like an MVP should, or will be continue to sit back and watch Davis play like the best player in the series.

I'm rooting for Golden State.  I think it's funny to have an eight seed beat a one seed in a seven game series.  Plus the Mavs were hyped up as unstoppable and all this bullshit when they don't have any fucking backbone, as clearly proven in this series.  Dirk is no mvp, Nash should be mvp.  This was Steve's best year out of the three, but I bet Dirk gets it and the Suns finally win it all on the back of a pissed off Nash.

This is patently ridiculous.  Even Don Nelson has said Dallas is the better team.  He just knows how to counter them.  Like someone said before, it's all about matchups.

Nash isn't going to win the award simply due to winning it the last two years. You could argue that he didn't deserve one of those, but I think he truly deserves it this year. People try to negate his success by bringing up past history, using arguments along the lines of "oh well Magic didn't win 3 awards and he was better than Nash, so Nash shouldn't get the award." First off, this is a different era. Magic played in a league with Jordan, Bird, Kareem, etc. In the current NBA there isn't a player who means more to their teams success than Nash. Period.

Dirk is going to win the award so it doesn't matter. But still, Dirk is a complete joke.

Yeah, the fact that this is the most likely scenario is pretty much why I don't pay any attention to the NBA in the regular season.  Well, that and the Hawks are god awful.

Under Stern the NBA has gone to great lengths to market this new crop of all star players, yet here we are with only two MVP candidates that can even be considered. I honestly can't think of anyone who deserves consideration outside of Nash and Dirk. LeBron had a rather subdued season, so no. Wade was hurt for awhile, and when he wasn't hurt his preformance wasn't that great (despite leading the PER). Both Kobe and Arenas started the season as MVP contenders, but as the pressure ramped up they disappeared, as did their teams.

I would like to see an NBA more focused on great competition and teamplay, not all star ballots. Outside of a few premier matchups like Suns-Mavs, I barely watched any regular season games.

As the pressure ramped up Kobe disappeared?

Check the month-by-month splits.

Also, in terms of meaning a lot to their teams, I don't see Nash meaning significantly more to the Suns than KG, Kobe, Arenas, McGrady, LeBron, and Wade mean to their teams.  Hell, look at the Bucks without Redd early in the year.

I agree about Kobe, but just because the Suns are deep doesn't mean Nash isn't the focal point of that team.  Besides, assists are sexy.

You're right about Kobe.

But you can't make an argument for Redd being the MVP for isntance. When Redd is hurt, the Bucks suck. When he's healthy they suck less. When Nash is hurt, the Suns suck. When he's healthy they win 60 games. Pfft.

You've got to be crazy.. Nash has an ability to make everyone else on his team great, and not only that, but he can shoot and score as well, he has great shooting AND incredible passing.  He's an incredible threat to your team because if you have a short in defense, he's got you, he can dirve on you so you have to be quick, and he can shoot from 3 point range so you need to play close.  he's a triple threat, you can't stop that.

Dirk is tall, can shoot, can't really pass that well, and has REALLY broken down this series.  Nash on the other hand had 23 assists the other game.

You think arenas and mcgrady bring more than nash?  lebron is awesome and wade is awesome, but they don't have all of the abilities nash has.

I just don't have any idea how you could say what you have said.

Reading comprehension, folks.  Tootsie is arguing that Nash has been more important to his team, rather than Nash being the best or most efficient player in the league.

Players with bigger per-minute on-court/off-court point differentials than Steve Nash this year:

Tim Duncan
Dirk Nowitzki
Gilbert Arenas
Baron Davis
Kevin Garnett

wow you're such a fucking dork it's kinda sad.  Nash means more because he MAKES the other players GREAT.  So he improves 5 players while the others are just useful on their own.  This is WHY Nash is more VALUABLE.  bold all the shit you want, you know you're full of it.

I could see the Mavs coming back.  Just treat Baron like Kobe.  I think the Mavs have been reluctant to do so because Baron is such a streaky shooter.  It's time for desperate measures though because Baron doesn't look like he'll cool off anytime soon.

man the mavs played great tonight, i thought GS had the shit when they were up by 9 but they just got fucked in the ass... and jesus did the warriors MISS a 3 pointer?

you know I was honestly under the impression tonight would be a blowout, and then game 6 would be it all, but seeing how golden state comes back from a 21 fucking deficit like it's fucking nothing has really opened my eyes on the shit.  Even if dallas somehow magically wins game 6 (which I honestly don't think will happen with that golden state crowd blaring like crazy, the the fact that the last 8 games vs the warriors they've lost 6 of em).  I think game 6 will definitely be the toughest game for the mavs, don't get me wrong, but i don't see it being anywhere NEAR over if golden state loses game 6.

Last nights game was fucking awesome, and ooooh SHIT the mav fans were fucking pissed.  I'm pretty glad dirk stepped up tonight, because I didn't want to see the #1 seat lose it like that (even though I want the mavs to lose because I can't STAND Dirk Flopinski).  I can't wait to watch game 6!

I think for the first 45 minutes of the game, josh howard, terri, and stackhouse are worth more than dirk.  Then in the last 3 minutes nothing is better than having a 7 foot uncontested high % 3 point shooter if you're getting rocked.

Dirk took more shots tonight but I still feel he doesn't deserve that MVP award.  For the season yeah, but definitely not for the playoffs.

I kinda want to see the mavs wins because you know the 7 game series vs phoenix will be fucking awesome, and if the warriors win... the suns will crush them in fast pace play... barbosa will have a field day.
