Starting to change my mind about Firefox...
« on: May 02, 2007, 10:22:49 AM »
I've been using it for a couple of years now but I always have random problems.

It doesn't work for secure sites at my work
Having problems watching videos that use MS Media player with my vista at home
Sometimes it will randomly tell me I can't log into my profile and I have to log in with another one wtf
Today I try to open it at work and it asks me if I want to make it my default brower and now everything is gone, all my bookmarks, everything

I like it for the addons it has but sometimes it's just a headache
I have IE7 on my computer at home and firefox and now that IE has tabbed browing I may just start using it

I use it every now and then, my laptop came with it and it works great with Vista. Does it have any addon features you can download like firefox does? If not does it plan on doing it anytime soon?

Thanks

I used Firefox for some time until I had enough of the random crashes/bookmark deletions/slowness/. It's too unstable and you have to install 866 extensions to make it something special.

Opera wins. Get it.

I've not had any of those problems since 1.5. Firefox 2.0 is awesome, and I suggest that if you haven't updated it, do so.

Agreed.  Just last night firefox was giving me trouble on a random site and I had to open IE.  Unfortunately I'm still on IE6 because of stupid Genuine Advantage.  I may rebuild my pc this weekend if I can get clearance to wipe my HD, I've got a newer version of XP that has all the activation crap taken out.  I want to try IE7 cause I'm tired of Firefox getting so huge when I leave it open and running.

Why is it necessary to black out the names on your task manager.

OH NO, WE CAN'T SEE THE WORDS "HOME" or "COMP" or "WORK"

That's because it has somebody's (who is not me) real name in it.
That's why.

And I see your gtfo and raise you:

it's not nessecarily the features but what makes it better for me is that it uses far less system resources compared to opera

Again, 2.0 isn't that bad on the RAM eating, it's just the older versions.

I haven't had the RAM eating problem under the new update. If you don't keep the program open forever in the first place, you won't have that problem.

It's not huge. The older versions of the software would just use up more and more system RAM if the program was open for an extended period of time, sort of like it stored EVERY PAGE you looked at or something. I've not had the problem since 2.0 came out though.

Update to 2.0. I swear that will cure your problems.

If you are, I don't think it's the program, because that's more than I've ever seen Firefox take up... ever. Especially in that amount of time.

We were using an Extension called "downthemall" to grab all the (full-sized) pics from http://www.acc.umu.se/~zqad/cats/index.html if that helps any.

The latest version has the same weird quirk the last couple of Windows versions had where it spikes CPU usage like crazy on me.
