Why Is Night At The Museum So Huge?
« on: May 03, 2007, 09:05:06 AM »
I just saw a press release about how huge this movie is on DVD. I sold over 6 million it's first week on dvd making over 100 million in DVD in one week.

And it made a massive 260 Million at the boxoffice.

I don't get it! Why is this move such a huge huge huge thing?

it's family friendly and appears slightly educational. seriously. every set of parents where i work took their kids to it, and the kids loved it.

Ben     Stiller

He's developed quite a fan following. He's up there with people like Adam Sandler, to which anytime the come out with ANYTHING...there are a lot of people that are going to gobble it up.

timing and bad taste.

a shit film that's bland enough not to rile anybody can do huge business around the holiday season (see also: Patch Adams, The Santa Clause series, Cat in the Hat, Meet the Fockers, etc.).  And the standards for an acceptable family film is pretty dang lax.
to be fair, I was into crap when I was a kid too.  I thought Home Alone 2 was one of the best films ever made at one time, and I couldn't for the life of me understand why those Police Academy flicks didn't get better reviews.

The worst part of the movie is when the monkey is peeing on him because he DOESNT MOVE. He just takes it in the face for like 10 seconds. wtf

really?  That's awesome.

Will legions of young kids have a strong, lasting impression of monkey given piss showers now because of that scene?  In about a decade or so will we see a monkey piss fetish subculture?  Kind of like whenever I see a person born with congenital defects I automatically think they would really like a Baby Ruth.

Hell, kids reared on Home Alone invented Backyard Wrestling and Bumfights, its not THAT crazy that this could happen also.
