To be used as a cheap ride for a Raimi song n dance comedy hour? It just seems like SOME people on this forum are making excuses for an obvious cause of bought off critics, stupid viewers and a bad movie.

Yeah, at appropriate theaters. It wasn't called Evil Dead 4 then played worldwide. There is a difference.

If I saw a showing of Spider-Man 3, I would expect Spider-Man 3.

Liking Spider-Man 3 depends one one thing.

Do you want either:

A. A epic follow up to Spidey2 that is action super-hero film

or

B. Want to kick back for 2 hours and enjoy a silly romp filled with Sam Raimi's sense of quirky sense of humor with some very nice action thrown in.

I find Raimi's type of humor absolutely perfect and spot on, I felt this for years now and the musical comedy numbers are Sam Raimi to a tee.

Yep. I know this is a very weak sequel to Spider-Man 2 but why is it so bad I enjoy it for the pure sillyness and oddness that it is? It is unlike a Batman Forever(not fair to even bring up B & R) because the humor is actually GOOD.

The fact Raimi was willing to take it off the deep end into the world of dance scenes is what saved it.

I gave up hope for a follow-up to Spidey 2 months ago, I get 2 hours of sheer silly entertainment.

I'm not qualified to speak on Spider-Man 3, but I have this feeling that poor Sam's glory days are over. I mean, I loved SM2, but you could see where the old Raimi was trying to break through in certain scenes without getting flak from the studio. I think his only chance is to go completely indie. Raimi's quirkiness is not for everyone.

I personally felt the film lacked energy for the most part, except in those scenes when Parker is rocking out the 70s pelvic thrusts and showin' up folks. The dialogue he has with Ursula (cake girl!) while he's on the phone with Doc Connors was hilarious. Seemed like when Sam and Tobey were having the most fun.

But for the most part, the entire cast seemed like they were going through the motions. The energy from the first two dissipated as soon as Spidey separated from the symbiote, and there wasn't a ton of momentum in the film prior to that even.

Reading a few of the geek boards, it's also no surprise that the third act possibly has the most material cut from it. There are folks that are speculating that good 30 minutes or more has been cut from the film, most of it involving the Sandman's family, Eddie Brock before his change and the resolution at the end.

I can see why folks would be upset by Sam cutting those scenes instead of his quirky ones, but I felt he made the right decision - if he had to keep something, those few shining moments had to be it.

I think Franco had a lot of fun too. I mean come on, he turns into a distinguished mentally-challenged 5 year old who does cheesey winks into the camera and has a litte dance number.

My enjoyment of the film comes down to:
-Everything with Peter Parker after he puts on the dark suit till he rips if off
-Harry's distinguished mentally-challenged scenes(harry and peter in the house, the cooking/dance date), the evil love triangle thing with the pie line and wink...etc
-Bruce Campbell's scene
- Harry vs. Peter in the house
- 4 Way finale

Everything else was medicore to poor but that above made up for it.

I don't think his glory days are over, but this is a definite misstep. The 'ole Sam Raimi might have been inclined to walk had Avi Arad insisted on Venom, but this new one has had two huge mega-hits under his bet to inflate his ego. If anything, hopefully this will serve as a reminder that you're only as good as the story and no one director can please everyone all the time. Here's hoping he's humbled a little bit and goes to work on projects he's more enthusiastic about, because unlike the first two, where you can see he's bursting at the seams in love for the material, this one feels like he loves some of the material, but not most.

James Franco was awesome. If anything, I feel more bothered by the fact that this is Harry's swan song and it's such a mediocre one. He was great and deserved possibly a film to himself, but I know a lot of folks were worried about another Green Goblin hurting box office business. The character deserved a better way to go out.

I don't think the movie missed the point - it was just poorly put together. Good concept, flawed execution. There's supposed to be humor in these films, Sam just made it his own brand this time around and I can see how that would bother folks.

What did you think about the Tim Burton Batman movies? I didn't like them for the same reason. It just felt like the director wasn't taking the material seriously.

Cake girl should be the one he marries. She wouldn't complain and she was fine with disco peter unlike MJ! She enjoyed taking demands from him. :'(

I just watched Spider-Man 1 for the first time, and I have no idea why people think 2 is an improvement. 2 is so boring. 1 has some hokey lines, but god damn is Willem Dafoe perfect in that movie. He brings the perfect balance of acting and campy scenery chewing. Plus, when you see him and James franco in the same movie, you can see why Franco was cast, visually. I have to say I actually enjoyed Spider-Man 1.

I've always said he was the only thing worthwhile about Spider-Man 2. I think Spider-Man 1 is more tolerable and less boring because it actually has the whole Uncle Ben scenario in it, rather than the pointless emo milking the sequel has. I can understand Parker being mopey in Spider-Man 1, but it's weightless in Spider-Man 2. And frankly, Dafoe > Molina.
