Okay, try this. All these pictures, the lighting is way off. Move the camera so that the light is behind it, not you. If that doesn't work, get a flashlight, or the brightest light you have, and shine it at the wall directly opposite of you (behind the camera). The glow should be enough to give you at least SOME lighting.

Yes. I was ALMOST taken in, but I got paranoid and told them I just realized I had left most of my cash back at the hostel. Then I ducked out of there pretty quickly. Later I learned all about the scam. (For those who aren't in the know, anyone who comes up to you on the street in China with pretty decent English and claims to be a student is trying to get your money. Possibly a large sum of it. They will suggest that you go get tea at some local tea house. You will have a great time, but when the bill comes, they will suddenly become scarce, and the bill will be for hundreds of dollars).

In Beijing I got taken in by the houtong bicycle tour scam, but luckily I only paid the guy around $12 or so. I kick myself for even giving him that much, but he had me honestly believing for a few seconds that he was about to get the cops.

I didn't encounter this one, but a friend of mine has talked about a scam where someone goes around asking for everyone's passport # on the tour bus. The goal is to make you take out your passport so that they can see exactly where your money belt is. Then if you fall asleep on that bus ride, you can kiss your stuff goodbye.
