So, 28 Weeks Later
« on: May 10, 2007, 05:06:17 PM »
Movie was TERRIBLE.  Don't read unless you want a bunch of stuff spoiled, but really you should NOT see this piece of crap.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
They don't explore the repopulation idea very much at all.  The beginning is a good set up with Robert Carlysle's character, showing what he had to do to stay alive during the original infection outbreak- basically abandon his wife and friends to die.  Then his kids show up, sneak out to their original house and find the wife apparently uninfected up in the attic all insane.  She's a carrier for the infection, and then dad sneaks in to see her, kisses her and ends up with the virus again.  They could have explored a really cool idea with maybe his trying to redeem himself but instead turn him into a zombie 1/3 of the way through the movie.

Then they shift the focus to the kids and a few other survivors as the military decides to blow everyone up.  The kids are boring characters that I didn't care about at all and was actively rooting for them to die over the last 1/3 of the movie.
[close]

Overall I would give this a 4 out of 10.  For comparison, I would give the original an 8.5 out of 10.  Also, people who like to bitch about shakey cam should not see this movie.  I personally don't mind it so much when done right or for the right reasons, but this movie fails at both.

In conclusion, don't see this movie.  If it bombs, we will be spared the horror of a 28 Months Later.

The trailer is like 10 times better than the movie.  My friend and I were talking about it afterwards, and I literally said to him, "Every single choice they made after the first 25 minutes or so was the wrong fucking choice.  That's gotta be a record."

say WHAT

The trailer (specifically the UK one) made this movie look like the greatest thing ever.  The beyond excellent use of Shrinking Universe by Muse made it even awesomer.

Raoul, nothing personal, but since I don't know anything about your taste in movies, I'm going to totally discount your comments.  It's like I never even read this thread!

Although I am kind of worried.  28 days later took a weird turn at a certain point and it was sketchy.

Yeah, that doesn't bode well for it.  If I watch the first movie again I'm just going to skip past the whole military base nonsense with it's weird rape shit and all that and be inexplicably transported to happy mountain scene.

the military sequence seemed like the point of the story, you take a bunch of grunts, surround them with zombies, and they'll want pussy.

Well, did you like the first movie?  Or good movies in general?  Because this movie has NOTHING in common with either.  Oh, on the surface it resembles the first one- rage zombies in the UK, same music, shaky cam.  What's missing is a good story, characters that you care about, and a good script.

But that's ok if you don't believe me.  I'm 99% sure that all of you people play mmorpgs, which pretty much makes all of you worthless as humans.

Yeah. The song made the trailer so fucking epic. I never saw 28 Days Later and I haven't heard anything good about this sequel, so I probably won't see it.

This is in stark contrast to the bloke at AICN that called it one of the rare times a sequel surpasses the original and is a triumph of blah blah blah.

Which guy said that?  And come on now Federwang, we both know that AICN is the most wretched hive of scum and villainy of the whole intarwebs, barring maybe OA or nintendorks.

This dude said it.

"Holy crap on a cracker, folks. Hold on to your hat and prepare to get hit by a truck, because I don’t think anyone saw this coming. While many of us have certainly been looking forward to the long awaited sequel to 28 Days Later, I haven’t talked to a single person who really held hope that it was going to be very good. It’s a rare thing when a horror sequel can actually live up to its predecessor..."

Also, for the record, Dawn of the Dead is superior to Night of the Living Dead.

Well, there you go.  The only person whose opinion I even HALF-WAY listen to at AICN is Moriarity's, and not for anything genre related.  Listening to fanboy's opinions on anything relating to their genre of choice is an act of futility- they can't be objective.  I mean, I certainly don't take you seriously re: anything Raimi related, especially Spider hyphen Man.

The Big Lebowski is the best movie ever, so. . .dang.

Rotten Tomatoes has been wrong before - Let's Go To Prison omg.   This is so gay.  The three movies I really wanted to see this spring/summer are all ass-raped or terrible.  I don't need this on top of the Mavs losing.  :-\
