overclocking help
« on: May 11, 2007, 02:34:22 AM »
this made me very interested in overclocking mine.  Mine is apparently an E6700, they say it's 2.66 ghz, but stupid Dell says 2.8 ghz.  *shakes fist*  so i don't know.

anyways, give me some basics about overclocking.  what is necessary?  how do i change the clockspeed?  what else should I do?  what is necessary to do it?

Intel's Core 2 Duo processor is another terrific overclocking candidate. These are also moderately priced units with some on the market today for around $200. These units are easily overclocking to 50% and some are being seen at 100% overclocks also.

Examples Core 2 Duo e6400 has a stock speed of 2.13 GHz. It can easily overclock to 3 GHz and beyond with the record being well over 4 GHz.

Core 2 Duo e6600 has a stock speed of 2.4 GHz. It can easily overclock to 3.6 GHz and beyond with the record being over 5 GHz.

Imagine the performance of a system powered by such a processor.

You might be screwed, Mupepe, unless you're willing to take the PC apart.  The e6700 is very overclockable but Dell motherboards usually don't allow overclocking.

If its dells asus board you can unlock the bios. But i dont know much more than that. You also gotta make sure your timings and voltages are ace. OCing is a little scary, dont take my advice though. I'm very limited in what I know. But I know that conroe rocks hard.

You gotta go into your bios and fuck about with volatge and timing and clock speeds and stuff. You also need to get aftermarket cooling for the CPU, Northbridge, VC and RAM if you do it right. And all this only works if your mobo is even oc'able, not all of them are. If you don't already know how to do this all you'll do is wreck your PC so I wouldn't recommend it.

Don't even think about it if you don't know what you're doing.  Want to brick your machine and void your warranty?  I didn't think so.

3ghz is nothing if you use watercooling.
