Please, there a much larger abundance of shitty hip hop than there is metal. The biggest reason being the mainstream eats it up.

Never said I liked him. As a guitar player, I respect his ability. But I'm not gonna go out there a buy all of his shit.

You people are fucking intense about this shit–the man has an audience, let him cater towards it. It may not be to you're liking or really at all like the genius of some artists that you all love, but the man has a talent in his craft. Guitar player is just his thing, and it's a shame that he chooses to display his influence on pop music than on his actual ability to play. I haven't liked anything of his recently, but "Room for Squares" is almost a perfect album. Lyrically, it's one of the best coffeehouse albums ever made.

From that album, this song is '3x5'. From a lyric perspective it is almost flawless ... the progression of the music and how it builds into the end is amazing.

As others have said, he is a terrific, versatile guitar player and a great live performer (something Fiona Apple is not). But he has also made some incredibly corny, wince-worthy music (Body is a Wonderland, Daughters, etc). So I understand why people dismiss him.

Well, Fiona Apple is godly. No doubt. It's a shame she is so crazy and can't perform live.

My problem with her, is you don't really know where her talents ends and her producers begins. They have been together for the whole time .. and it's hard to discern who's responsible for what.
