May 10, 2007 - Square Enix is going PSP crazy. Alongside the announcement for Star Ocean: First Departure at their press conference today was the announcement Star Ocean: Second Evolution, a retelling of the RPG classic released on the original Playstation.

When considering the build-up to Star Ocean 4, potential new fans may want to have an opportunity to explore the back story of critically acclaimed series. Second Evolution will give them just that, along with an updated presentation. This title is getting the same upgrades that First Departure is getting, complete with fresh CG cutscenes.

The Star Ocean series is one of Square Enix's lesser known franchises that has received critical acclaim in the press, and a cult following among RPG fans. By mixing sci-fi, fantasy, and real-time battles, the series has its own unique footprint amongst the Square Enix family of games.

No release date was announced for any of the new Star Ocean games, but fret not. We expect details to start flowing in the coming months, so stay tuned.

Funny how the best S-E games aren't even made by S-E. Tri Ace :bow

Even MORE reason to get a psp!

I'm so psyched about this. I cannot wait for both of them!

I'm a rabid Star Ocean fan (like I am with the Wild Arms series). The only downside to this announcement is that I was planning to replay SO2 on my PSP (with Popstation) but now I have to wait for this :( . The same thing happened with Final Fantasy Tactics.

On the flipside, its hilarious that nfans all over the world got hosed at this party :rofl

If its FFVII with a new translation and super duper visuals...I would be set. But I have a feeling they (SE) are going to Gacktify it...ugh

So I agree with you :(

Star Ocean 2 will probably be translated again for America (see: VP Lenneth, Tales of Eternia, Breath of Fire III), Star Ocean will float in Japan for eternity once more...

:heartbeat :heart Star Ocean 1 and 2 :heartbeat :heart

I'd love to see the remake of the first Star Ocean come out in the US, although I'm not sure a full remake with prerendered backgrounds was a necessity... the original had some absolutely lovely spritework. And the new artwork for Rati is  :sp0rsk1 :( I've beaten both games so many times because they are so fun. People may complain about the PSP being a port/remake shovelground... but when you get ports/remakes of amazing games like the Star Ocean games, Gradius collection, VP, Rondo, Every Extend... you can't complain!

ToE and BoFIII never made it to the US, that was europe only.

VP:L wasnt actually retranslated as far as i can tell.....but i think that was because they actually did a good job the 1st time...

SO 2 was very very dry and literal-ish translation.  and the voice overs were  terrible ass.  I'm hoping they put a little more work into this one.

I don't see why we won't get SO1.

S-E was able to release VP for psp, so they can definitely manage to release these two.

It's a good thing PSP games are region-free then

Not that I actually care about buying PSP games.

Mupepe, if you like giant robots pick up Gundam Seed Rengou Vs. ZAFT, it's a fucking awesome 3D fighting game.  It's like a perfect port of the arcade game.  Unfuckinbelievable.
