Electronic devices on planes
« on: May 13, 2007, 01:50:24 PM »
I haven't flown in awhile so I'm not sure of the current aviation rules.  Do they still allow devices like Ipods and handheld gaming systems?  I"m going to travel in a couple of days so I want to have some entertainment during the flights.

Also, if I get a handheld, do you guys recommend a PSP or DS?  I'm leaning towards the DS right now because I had a PSP once and didn't care much for the PS2-lite games.  The DS seems to have more games that are different from the stuff you get with home consoles.  I'll probably be bringing my WII also, which is my least favorite system.  I'll like to bring the 360 or PS3 but they're too big and heavy.

I think gaming systems need to be turned off with cell phones. Not sure about ipods tho.

I brought my laptop on last time and used it on the flight. No problems.

That was in January

Take off and landing they have to be shut off.

When you are high enough, they chime in and say it's ok to use them. You also can't use the WiFi on anything that allows it.

When I saw that, it took me awhile before I realize that you were talking about the plane getting high enough.  I think I need more sleep.  lol

So, Demi, do you recommend a PSP or DS?  I know you do alot of portable gaming.  Battery life is a concern too.  How long would the PSP battery last if I'm playing a game like MGS:portable ops?  The DS battery is good for about 8hrs, right?

I really don't care. Both are great. Except, only buy a PSP if you're gonna hack it. Nobody wants to support a dead handheld do they?

Your PSP won't even survive the whole plane trip.

I don't think I have the time to hunt down the right software to hack the PSP.  Also, aren't the newer PSPs hack proof?  I'm not going to play the whole time, do you think the PSP battery can last for about 6 hrs?

I get 5-7 hours with the 2600 mAh battery (the default one is 1800 mAh) -- about the same as my DS. Definitely a recommended purchase for PSP owners.

Where can I find it and how much is it?  I just looked on Bestbuy.com and gamestop but they didn't have it.  Bestbuy had a 2200 mAH one.

It's ok, Drinky.  Thanks for the tip.  I assume that your 6 hrs is still with disc loading, right?  Because someone told me that it saves battery power when you load games from the memory disc.  Also, what are your top 4 games for the PSP?

with disc loading, yeah. i have an unmodded psp.

four fave games? eh, it changes from week to week -- i own like 30 psp games, though.

i'd go with:

1. hot shots golf open tee
2. daxter
3. gradius collection
4. tekken: dark resurrection

I didn't know they had hotshots golf on PSP. Damn, I could kill 6 hours with that alone.
