For me, since 97-98. I've been addicted ever since.

We had a 95 era computer that couldn't even support IE 3.0... I remember we finally got a new computer and we were celebrating because the browser supported frames, haha.

How things have changed, now I have a laptop that can play STALKER cranked almost all the way up.

haha, the 95 machine had a 14.4 modem in it.

by 98 whenever I was using it, people were laughing at how slow my computer was chugging along.

I remember Napster, whenever we finally got a 56k modem, and how it would take like an hour to download one song, haha.

Yeah, when I first went to college back in '96. I remember trading and selling Magic the Gathering cards on a long defunct website back then and also getting the hottest new deck tech as well. And of course porn. Ah, the glorious old days of DIAL UP. I remember when I upgraded to a 56k modem and was all excited.

Although that was the first time I had my own computer, my friends and I used to troll aol chat rooms back in the day as well. Good times, good times.

94. I was BBSin' for a few years before that, pretty regularly from 92-94.

I have a certain fondness for the BBS days. It was like pirate radio. You don't get that home grown feeling from anything any more.

My parents had a QLink account back in the mid late 80s that I sort of had access to.

Then they ran a BBS in Tacoma for a couple years in the early 90s (this is how I ended up meeting the first girl I had a crush on, she was daughter of some BBS person my parents were friends with, fucked up people they were).

Uh, then we had AOL and Prodigy around the same time and I know my parents had had Unix accounts before that. I got my own personal AOL account around 96. My current Yahoo email address dates back to 97.

So yeah, that's about it for the early years.

Then we canceled it in like 1999 because my brother was the only one who really used it and he went away to college. We got it again in 2001 after we moved into a house and got a new computer. I'm still using the same computer today and it hasn't been upgraded at all. $:-\$

I used to use the internet occassionally in 1993-94 for a high school project, and whenever I wanted to hang out with the super-nerds. Got my first email address in 94 when I enrolled at Georgia Tech, and have pretty much had some form of internet since.

On a side note, a guy at work and I were talking about the Dreamcast days and the hacks we had to do to get free isps to work with it. Does anyone remember the big free isp that wasn't Netzero? It's driving me crazy and google isn't helping.

I didn't really get into the internet until 1996, when AOL started giving away free internet.

Got AOL in the summer of '95, parents got rid of the account because I was racking up 70-80+ bucks a month on it (this was when they still charged hourly)... got AT&T WorldNet (dialup) in mid 1996, and had that until upgrading to Optimum Online in '03 after returning from college.

We had a computer with Windows 3.12 and then we upgrade to Windows 95 in like 96 or so. I loved 3.12 for some odd reason.

Oh shit, I didn't even think about gaming addiction; I was thinking forums. I probably got addicted to Starcraft and Day of Defeat 1.3beta even more so around 2001. I played DoD until the retail version hit, whenever that was.

Free Inet? Or something like that. They were based in Washington, I remember driving by the building a couple times. We had them like my last year or so of highschool but they got progressively worse. Finally we got DSL and never looked back.

And yeah, we were talking about the trick to use the regular windows dialer and avoid seeing their ads. It seems the Dreamcast hack to use that service used a bunch of 9's as well.

Perminatly 2000, was on aol back then. i loved the chat rooms too at aol but i was bored and lonely. i got into a lot of trouble and eventually got kicked off aol. then i got comcast and have had that since.

My first time on the net was back in 97 i used to go to the old n64 (ign) place for codes and stuff. My first e-prank was in december of 99. i was at a christian school and with the help of another we plastered porn on every screen we could get our hands on. Mass emailed from our princlples account to all the teachers and staff. As well we made all the home pages sketchy porn sites on all the imac's

I think the first windows I had was 2 something and I was pissed off (I was 5) that my friend who was a couple years older and had windows 1 and I was always really bitter about that. He also had a computer that could run NFS better.
