The IRS lost my tax return
« on: May 17, 2007, 11:27:08 PM »
I got my documents (but not my return) sent back to me with a weird blue-pen cursive handwritten note that says "We do not have a 2006 tax return from you. IRS." Of course I sent in my return with my documents. How could I send in only my documents? And why is this letter handwritten? It's so sketchy.

There was no other information or instructions about what I should do. Just my documents and that handwritten note. I was totally weirded out. I called the IRS tax helpline this evening and the guy I talked to there was totally weirded out, too. I mean, blue pen?!

Now I have to do my taxes again. :( Well, PRINT my taxes again. :D Thank you, Adobe and the Portable Document Format!

I moved and my mail hasn't been properly forwarded yet. It's been nearly two months and I've gotten exactly three pieces of forwarded mail, and had three packages lost (although another two have been delivered). I'm expecting a nice check from the IRS, but I have NO IDEA when the fuck it's going to show up, or when I should call and check on it. It sucks, fuck the Postal Service. They are seriously inept.

Motherfreakin' IRS! *door gets kicked open*

Yeah, they suck like that. Just recently, I got a letter from them saying that I owed wayyyy more for last year's taxes than I paid them. Turns out they screwed up and somehow duplicated my 1099s, attributing them to both my normal employer and some Chinese mortgage company I never even heard of. Eventually the problem got fixed, but it was a hassle, and I had to get a letter of explanation from this other mortgage office way over in Alhambra, printed on their official letterhead.

Well, at least you haven't had to wait 8 months. Hmm, maybe I should give the IRS a call...

Yeah. You can be damn sure I won't wait 8 months. I guess if I don't have my checks at the end of May it will be time to call. Not that I need the cash, but fuck it, it's mine.

Why didn't you direct deposit it? You get your return back faster and don't got to fuck around with the mail.

I dunno. Is that available with a mail in return? I should have e-filed but I didn't. I also didn't know I was having mail troubles at the time, when I filed I had only been in my new place a few days. I didn't realize 6 weeks later I'd still have problems getting mail.

edit: I've e-filed before though, I was just lazy and did it the old fashioned way this year. I'm not used to getting money back so I really didn't care about speed in the past.

Yeah, right on the bottom above where you sign your name it asks if you would like it direct deposited and you write your bank # and routing # off your check in there. I do it all the time because I was moving like every six months for a while and on tax return checks they don't forward them, they just return to sender, so you gotta call the IRS and get it reissued if you don't recieve it.

That's hot advice, I dunno how I missed that.

My paycheck is direct deposited, I :-* direct deposit. I won't make that mistake next year for sure, thanks for pointing that out for me.

I didn't know that either. Luckily I put my new addy on my tax return, but like I said, my new addy hasn't helped some packages find their way here. It's a new apt complex, I guess the PO doesn't know where the hell I am yet.

What's really funny is that my high school somehow found me, with the new address. I've gotten three pieces of mail from them, two other random spam mail, and three pieces of forwarded mail in two months. It's pretty fucked up, and I'm really not sure how my hs found my new addy and somehow actually gets their stuff delivered. I smell money hats.
