standing someone up at the altar

Standing someone up at the altar/running away from your own wedding the day it's happening.

Did you do it? Did it ever happen to you? Do you know anyone who has been in that situation? Does this even happen in real life?

Discuss.

Never seen it happen to anybody I know.  I imagine it's the sort of thing that would be absolutely heartbreaking to the person who got stood up.

I personally don't know anyone that that has happened to. But in Georgia there was a really crazy story about this bride that staged her own kidnapping the day before her wedding. She cut off all of her hair and staged it like she really was taken. It was a huge deal too because she came from an affluent family. They found her in New Mexico a week later staying with some hippies or something  :lol She ended up having to pay back all the police costs for the search and investigation as well as do some community service.

I remember that story haha.

But like, I just watched the season 3 finale of Grey's Anatomy and it happens there. It's like so commonplace on television/in movies. Is it one of those things that's way out of proportion in the media, or does it actually happen that often in real life?

I'd marry him tomorrow if he asked me and I'd never run. :)
