The Orange Peel and AC Entertainment announce:
THE SMASHING PUMPKINS
NINE SHOWS AT THE ORANGE PEEL JUNE 23 - JULY 5

Monday May 14th - AC Entertainment and The Orange Peel are proud to announce that alt-rock legends THE SMASHING PUMPKINS will perform a nine-show residency June 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, and July 2, 3 and 5 at THE ORANGE PEEL in Asheville, NC.
In anticipation of the release of ZEITGEIST, their sixth album and first of new material since 2000, The Smashing Pumpkins announced this special and intimate residency, in addition to eight nights at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco. The band's set lists will vary from night to night to include songs from Zeitgeist, Pumpkins' classics, retooled songs that didn’t make it onto the new disc, and even tunes written the day of the show. Fans get the unique opportunity to see the Pumpkins inside the process of impromptu creation and taking chances in the hope of taking fans, and their music, to new places. Fans are invited to capture the concerts with audio and video recorders.
Tickets for these special general admission all-ages shows go on sale Sunday, May 20, at 1pm ONLY via www.theorangepeel.net or www.ticketweb.com. Tickets are $20, plus applicable service fees. Two-ticket limit per person. Purchaser must pick up tickets at the box office night-of-show only. Ticket-holders must immediately enter the venue. Photo ID required for ticket pick-up. Tickets are non-transferable. No refunds or exchanges.

Apparently this place sits just over 900 people.  A couple of friends and I are going to try and get tickets this weekend.  I've only seen the Pumpkins live once, 94 Lollapalooza and Corgin's voice was shot.  I really like the way they are going with open sets, there should be some really interesting songs being played.  I also like how they are going to encourage taping of the sets, means we'll have some really good Pumpkin music come June.  Who wants to go with?

edit:  Honestly though, I'm going to be pretty disappointed if I can't get some tickets.  The venue and setup just sounds amazing.  Asheville is a really cool town too, I imagine more than a few people will try and go to every show there.

I'll bring her whole damn family for a chance to see the Pumpkins.  I will send you a copy of our tour rider.  Don't worry about the monkey's and sheep, we still have the ones from our last trip.

Awww, Tet .. you're one of "them".

I saw them at Lolla 94 also. Worst concert I ever saw. Although Billy was pretty cool, he bagged on Ted Nugent (the concert was in Detroit). Half the festival left after the third song.

Hmm, one of them?

I should add, I was TERRIBLY disappointed when I saw them live.  First off, Nirvana was supposed to be the headliner that year, but yeah, we know how that ended up.  Second, like I said, Corgin sounded like absolute hell and that kind of killed the set for me.  Third, they followed the Beastie Boys who absolutely TORE IT UP for 90 minutes.

That said, Siamese Dream is in my Top 10 albums, Gish is overrated among SP fans but awesome as well, and even Pisces Iscariot is still very listenable.  I couldn't care less about most of Mellon Collie, and after the ep Zero I've never even bothered to listen to anything Corgin/Pumpkins put out.

Still though, the opportunity to see one of my favorite bands live in this day and age is pretty rare for me.  Considering Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and Nirvana aren't "coming through that door,"  this is about as good as it will get for me this summer.  Unless I want to drive 12 hours to see Radiohead, which I do but I'm not gonna.

The Orange Peel is a small club about an hour from where I live.  I'm getting tickets for a Tuesday show.

Have you been there before cubicle?  Where do you live if you don't mind me asking, we're coming up from Charlotte assuming I can score tix to a weekend show.  With work being busy around that time I dunno if I can swing a weekday show, but I'll have to consider it if I can't get tix for fri/sat.  I hear the club only seats a little over 900 people, so I'm sure those weekend dates will go fast.

I've been there a bunch of times for Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket, Cat Power, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, etc.  It's a cool little venue.  Some of those shows I managed to get there a little early for and was in the first few rows.  Watching a concert about 10 feet from (front row, directly in front of) Ira Kaplan was a pretty damn cool experience.

I live in Johnson City, TN.

Who's in the band this time around?  Is it 'really' the Smashing Pumpkins or just Corgan and a backup band calling itself the Smashing Pumpkins?

Zeitgeist (new album) = Billy and Jimmy
Touring band = Billy, Jimmy and two other people.

Siamese Dream (album) was pretty much just Billy and Jimmy.

Well, the ticket website has been hammered for the last 45 min since it went live.  I can't get it to load, doesn't look like I'll get tickets.  Oh well, I still look forward to hearing some of these sets.

I made it to the page where you select the number of tickets you want but the submit never went through and the site hasn't loaded for at least 15 minutes.  Oh well, w/e.

I'm flying down to San Francisco for the July 31st show, I can't believe it's been almost seven years since I last saw them (went to the final show at the Metro in Chicago). Well, I did see Zwan a few times, but it's not the same.
