Best messaging client out there?
« on: May 20, 2007, 06:36:43 PM »
Yea, I posted this over at GAF and got one reply. I downloaded Trillian and I'm probably going to check that out unless I get some other suggestions. The one reply suggested Miranda IM. You guys got anything for me? Something where I can talk with people on both MSN and AIM and save logs.

Miranda is a little confusing for me.

I use it at school if I'm at a computer without AIM, and I'm always having a hard time telling who's online and who's not, and sometimes it doesn't seem to connect me automatically and I won't realize for awhile.

DeadAIM is where it's at.

Yea, I ended up just going back to it. AIM 5.5 + DeadAIM. After 3 years, I'm too accustomed to it.

If you're ever on someone else's PC, use meebo

http://www.meebo.com/

Great web client, and it supports all things, like an online Trillian.

My uncle uses AIM and always asks me why I do. He only uses it to talk to people who are only on AIM. I think he prefers MSN if I remember correctly. I've never used anything but AIM/DeadAIM.

I have Yahoo! and enjoy it for email and groups like Freecycle, but I don't have their messenger lol.

I always wondered how any computer literate person can manage with no messenger account other than AIM?

I don't know if you'd call me computer literate, but I know more than the average moron I guess.

I'm sure I could get by with other clients, but my reality is that I've been using AOL exclusively since 1996. Every single one of my friends is on AOL or AIM. So yeah, that's about it haha.

computer literacy has nothing to do with it. Why would you use MSN if you don't have any friends who use it?

I use MSN for work, and I have another account I use as well to talk to some people, when I am not at work -- it's weird saying "at work" when I do that from home. I only have like 10 people on my personal account.

Every single person I talk to online uses AIM. Why would I go and use some other protocol when no one I know is going to use it?

What's the big difference between the different services? They all serve the basic purpose of text-messaging people you know.

I'm using Miranda. I was just using MSN before but I know people who use just AIM or Yahoo (bastards).

I'm also using Miranda for IRC.
