Favorite Light Beer?
« on: May 21, 2007, 05:50:59 PM »
I've tried Coors and Bud and Heineken, are there any notables out there? Fat Tire is grand but omg beer belly. Tho looking at the carb count for non-light beers, makes me wonder if its even worth it. There isn't much in the way of carbs in normal 'beers', tho whats the difference between an ale and lager.

I know my scotch but not my beer, educate me!

TRUE

as for the differences between lagers and ales its simple. They both usually have similar ingrediants but ales are fermented quicker with the use of a fast acting brewers yeast where as the lager is stored in barrels for months at a time to get the ferminting from all of its ingrediants. Lagers are usually smoother than ales as result. But lagers dont have fruity flavors like ales have. The notes of a lager are much more complex and not so harsh. While the notes of the ale are usually just bitter and straight notes containing no "rainbow of flavor" like a lager does.

hope that helps.

getting a beer belly does indeed suck, but drinking a lite beer sucks more.

i've been drinking beer like it was necessary for survival since the fucking early 90s and yeah, I may have gotten a little chubby there, I would still rather have a gut than drink piss.

Well that's because ales use high temperature yeasts and lagers use cold temperature yeasts.

If I remember correctly I think most wheat beers are 'lighter' than normal beers.

For liquors true but not necessarily beer because of the higher amount of malt and sugar (especially Belgian beers).

are beer carbs different from say..run o the mill carbs. I've heard cabs from beer hit the carb intake harder or something, but the more believable debate of eating while binging on booze comes up too.

Not sure, it may be that the sugars in beer are more simple and thus digested more quickly?

I dunno, some sites say its the eating with the beer, others say its not beer in general but BINGE drinking that causes it...tough to say. Scotch seems safer overall tho. OH TEH WELL>

I guess it depends on whether beer or liquor 'fills' you up more. Also a lot of people drink liquor mixed so that packs on calories as well.

Probably based on the mistaken notion that beer is high on the glycemic index, which is what all those low-carb fad diets base everything off of.  However, you'd have to drink a hell of a lot of beer in a real short period of time in order to just be able to measure the spike in blood sugar level, I mean like something that's unrealistically high.  Is the Bubblicious gonna drink five beers in ten minutes?  I didn't think so.  The glycemic load method is much more accurate, and beer is supposedly really low on that.  So no, the carbs in beer won't affect you like a candy bar would.  (I researched all this shit once - I hope I'm remembering it correctly - but don't worry Panda, I probably am)

And anyone who calls me a cigarillo for drinking Coors Light gets a beatdown.

I'm not a Light Beer fan at all. But if I had to choose. So far the best out of the ones I have tried are

Best of the Light Beers. (From What I know, I'm not a light beer drinker)
&

I recommend the first one I posted. But if you want the lesser of the shit regular beers, Miller Light is the best of the reg shit light beer.

There's nights I dont care, I mean I general keep a six pack of Fat Tire at the back of the fridge, takes about two weeks to get through a six pack of that, light beer six packs only take like a week tho cause I rationalize it. Im going to start hitting the scotch again tho, I miss its embrace.
