The movie has penetrated urban black culture in a way that it hasn't in the mainstream.  That's the truth.

So basically, urban rap culture is black culture?

Huh? Where did you get this? This has nothing to with rap culture.

To be fair, Scarface is a HUGE part of rap culture.

That's only because it's a big part of black culture to begin with.

So how did black people steal it in the first place?  And again, why?  Why not a less crass rags to riches story?  Why not Rocky?

black movies are pretty shitty all in all.

they're either...

a). we're opressed, white man be holding us down
b.) look at me, i'm a girl and i'm black and sassy (black comedies)
c.) we be gangsta  bang bang

The only good black movies are black family comedies.  they're awesome.

Shut the fuck up.
why don't you argue instead of acting like a bitch and validating my opinions?

Rocky isn't a rags-to-riches story.  Not the first one, anyway.  And why would black people gravitate towards a movie where the bad guy is a caricature of Muhammed Ali?

At least he's a white dude playing a caricature of a black man instead of an Italian dude playing a caricature of a Cuban.  And yes, Rocky is a rags to riches story.  Just because riches doesn't mean money or victory in its case doesn't change the fact that it's a pretty clear LOSER TURNS WINNAR story.

Except there's no physical evidence of the "rags to riches" part, whereas that is available in EXCESS in Scarface.

And I was referring to Carl Weathers' role when I was talking about caricatures.  I don't think black audiences would gravitate towards a movie where the person you are rooting against is african american.

That's a rather shallow reason.

My bad.  Brain fart on that one.  Even still, Carl Weathers is a badass, and he WINS.  He beats the hero of the movie.  How could black people see that as anything but praiseworthy?

BACK ON TOPIC

It's basically a take on the "good brother, bad brother" theme, but in an urban setting. Very sad movie, but I thought it was cool. Plus Forrest Whittiker is damn crazy in the beginning of the movie. Plus Jada is in it :-*

Because he's presented as a cocky asshole throughout the movie and even at the end, an amateur Italian American boxer is able to go the distance with the champ.  That's insulting.

Scarface is one of the least likable characters ever.  He's a hotheaded scumbag.  I am not one to glorify mobsters, but at least Vito Corleone was rational, and smart.  His rise to power included interesting, strategic plans.  Scarface is an idiot.  He only became rich because he was crazy.  He never did anything interesting, just killed people.  His death was inevitable and when it came, I thought 'good riddance.'

Plus I hate when they make characters have "morals" by having them averse to killing woman and children.

Scarface is probably my favorite movie ever. I saw it way before it became a hype amongst hiphop so you can't count me in on the bandwagon crowd. It's just one of those movies you can keep watching over again because it's so fun. There isn't anything really boring in it and while it may be a little bit over the top (the movie wasn't intended as a documentary anyway) it still is very realistic. But then you of course got these people hating on the movie for the wrong reasons, ie. that it's associated with hiphop/black people.

I don't think any moviescene can beat the finale of Scarface. There is an incredible build-up towards the inevitable ending. Nobody thought Tony would actually survive it, from the moment they saw Sosa's army raiding his property, but I'm sure everyone still had that little impossible hope cause you were rooting so much for that fantastic character Pacino played.
