So, transferring my domain name
« on: May 26, 2007, 10:19:14 AM »
What's the procedure exactly?

My site's domain is currently registered through Domain Registry of America, but I'm not spending fucking $30 to renew it. I want to transfer it to GoDaddy or something that's a lot cheaper.

Someone care to explain the process?

Who provides your web/mail services for the domain?
Can they renew it for a reasonable price?
Just transfer it to them, according to their instructions.
My hosting is handled by SurpassHosting (which encompasses my email and everything), while the domain name is registered via DROA.

Surpass does domains, but it's twice as expensive as GoDaddy.

Haha, sonofabitch.

So I went ahead and started the transfer process.

It's now asking for my 'Authorization Code'. I've got no fucking clue what that is. There's no mention of an Authorization code at my DROA account management area, and I don't ever recall seeing one on any email I've ever received from DROA.

What the fuck.

i had that same problem when I tried to renew my www.evilore.com domain.  This was before I paid though, I waited on call with Yahoo! domains for like 30 minutes until I said fuck you, i don't need the site.  I have no idea what the authorization code is though.  call them.

Fucking hell, this is going to turn to shit.

Now I've got to wait for my dad to get his credit card in case they ask me any questions I don't have the answer to. Cocksuckers.

Woohoo.

After calling and speaking to a very nice Indian woman, I got my code.

Hrm...

So now it's been stuck for 2 days like this:
Domain NameStatusRecommended ActionAdmin Email
NFORMANT.NET  Pending Current Registrar Approval  Accept transfer at current registrar  james@nformant.net

I haven't received any new emails from my current registrar or anything. Anyone know what's supposed to happen at this stage? I thought the GoDaddy site said something about it being 10 minutes or so for this stage, but I don't recall :(
