did you jump to laserdisk? Because assumg Blu-Ray "wins" that is what it will be. It will be to dvd as LD was to VHS. DVD is far far too large to overcome it, people at gaf keep thinking in video game terms in how it will succeed. Home video is not that simple. PS3 would have to TRIPLE PS2's userbase in America (and it will be lucky to have half of the userbase how things are going) to even compete with DVD since for now PS3 is what is keeping blu-ray going.

Well, around here be don't Gigabit download speeds, more 5 megabit with Timewarner, which isn't even one megabyte per second.  We can't download 4-5 Gigabyte in 2 hours.  I'm extremely jealous.  I looked at Comcast and their highest download speed is 8 megabit (roughly 1 megabyte) so the fast you could download 4 GIG is about 1 hour and 8 minutes. 

Anyways, another reason that HD or Blu-ray will be around is that it is 1080, which is about the max available on any HDTV. DVD is only 480.

Cable box is different, it is streaming.  I was talking about movies only being on the internet.
