This is not my favorite Beatles' album, but it is probably the most famous and most influential album the band ever released. It is also their most critically acclaimed album. For instance, it was the first ever rock album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and recently Rolling Stone magazine named it the best album of all time.

Best song: "A Day in the Life"
worst: "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" (really the only song I dislike on the album)

I find Benefit of Mr. Kite to be the one track that really shows how far ahead of everyone else The Beatles were with their studio work at that time. It's impossible to digest all the layers and sounds present without many, many listens. That said, it isn't a particularly good song, but I usually only skip over When I'm 64 and She's Leaving Home if I skip anything.

The vocals aren't very good. And George Martin and Geoff Emerick deserve the credit for the technical merits of the song.

Am I the only person who likes the sound of Beatles songs but hates how they're like the length of tv show intros, making you hate the songs in the end?

Mr. Kite is fucking awesome. I'd say Fixing a Hole or SHe's Leaving Home are the worst. Both are Paul compositions, iirc, too.

That is an exaggeration, but I shouldn't take your comment too literally. Yeah many of the Beatles' songs were short. However, until the mid to late 60's most pop and rock songs were only about two mintes long. Radio stations did not want to play long songs, but the Beatles actually helped change this. After the mid sixties they released a number of lengthy songs and radio stations had to play them (THEY WERE THE BEATLES after all). Two of the songs on Pepper are over five minutes long. Hey Jude, I Want You (She's so Heavy), and Revolution 9 are all over seven minutes long.

Well, both bands are probably trying to mimic a carnival sound. I don't know when Supper's Ready was composed, but I would guess it was after Pepper was released.

Everyone knows A Day in the Life is hands down one of the BEST Beatles songs ever–and of COURSE it's the best song on the mostly meh Sgt. Peppers album. It's Lennon at his best, and Paul at his least point of involvment (which is okay!).

What is with the Paul hate? And he wrote the middle section of A Day in the Life, which he also sang. So to say that this was his "least point of involvment" is wrong. There are many songs which he didn't write nor sing.

Eh, I should correct myself. It really was the point in which Lennon and Paul were going seperate ways, honestly–that middle portion was actually intended for a whole different song, but it was decided to mesh the Lennon-written material with that little portion for A Day in the Life. I love Paul, but Lennon was really the one who defined the Beatles, to me. And A Day in the Life is his best contribution to the Beatles, in my eyes.

Paul lovers point to Hey Jude, but that is a song that I hate soooo passionately. He's much better when him and Lennon were on the same page.

I don't know why but the beatles have never really done much for me musically. I've never been able to get through a whole beatles album before changing it to something else. Most all the other big 70's giants I've never had a problem like Zepplin and Pink Floyd, but with the beatles I just don't see what the big deal is.
