holy shit. I'm watching Apocalypto and it's incredible.

The colors are what stand out the most. They're really fucking bold. I love it. The part where they're all painted blue on the pyramid looks amazing.

I should have done this sooner.

I remember a bunch of tards on GAF were telling me that since my tv is CRT the difference would minimal if it was even noticeable. The difference is gigantic.

Did you get a Toshiba HD-A2? The upscaling is supposed to be pretty darn good, even better than my beloved Oppo.

You're in Houston, right? I read that Conn's has the A2 for $199 right now

yeah, I got the A2. I didn't get it for 199 though!

I did get it with 5 hd dvd's though.

It's still like $400-450 at most stores around here. Sam's Club has it for $243, but the only stores stocking it so far are on the east coast.

not necessarily. my samsung DLP is 86 pounds. I can carry it by myself.

My mom owns a 42 inch LCD that weighs about 120 lbs.

and btw, for the price of an lcd, you can get a crt with superior black levels and a larger screen.

PS3 WAS a slouch, now its capable. How long did that take for simple DVD upscaling?

I ended up just getting a standalone, 1000+ hours of DVD playback + gaming sorta axed my last 360 I think.

I prefer my PS3 over my upscaling player for one main reason: gray bars vs. black bars when watching 4:3 material. The upscaling DVD player requires me to use the 4:3 option on my HDTV, leaving me with horribly distracting gray bars on the sides of the TV. The PS3, however, uses black bars which don't deter from my 4:3 material viewing.
