Wayne's World - Nostalgia Succeeds

I thought maybe it wouldn't be funny anymore. I mean most of the jokes are pretty clean and its full of pop-culture jokes, but damn if I didn't still laugh at this movie last weekend.

I even like the second one.  I think So I Married an Axe Murderer, Wayne's World, Wayne's World II and Austin Powers was Myers at his peak.  Everything after Austin Powers is a steady decline.

So I Married An Axe Murderer is pure gold. Myers playing his Scottish father is the precursor for Fat Bastard, only ten times funnier.

"I never liked that Colonel, with his wee, beady eyes, and that smug look on his face. 'Oh you're gonna buy my chicken, oooooo' ".

You can definitely see how as Myers progressed in film, his movies became more and more mainstream.  So I Married an Axe Murderer is great, but it's pretty much a cult classic.

I think "Axe Murderer" stands up the best because it's a more conventional comedy. It doesn't rely so much on pop culture references and sight gags.

Wayne's World makes me sad, because it makes me think about how great SNL used to be. How I used to look forward to Saturday Nights because something great was going to be on.

A lot of people share the love when it comes to the Sandler, Farley, Myers, Carvey, Spade, Schneider, Hartman ensemble, but they started off at the very least, pretty much disliked at the time.

Yup. Its always the same. We all fondly remember the early 90's crew (Sandler/Farley/Myers/etc) now, but I distinctly remember the early 90's when people hated em and were remembering the good old early 80's cast. Seems like SNL casts arent really appreciated until their time has passed.

I doubt the recent cast will ever be appreciated.

Probably not. There are always ones that arent (late 80's comes to mind). But the ones that are never seem to get their dues until years later.

Yeah, I haven't gotten around to checking it out either. I watched the episode where Will Arnett guest-starred and it was pretty funny though.
