Melissa, despite what you and your friends think, Dune is considered to be one of his worst movies. It's not terrible, but who the heck wants to sit through it more than once? Not many people.

INLAND EMPIRE may have been voted out earlier, but few of us have seen it yet.

I've seen all of Lynch's movies, and in fact own everything except Straight Story and INLAND EMPIRE. Just because GAMELIFE MELISSA and her merry band of cohorts don't agree with how we've voted means jack shit. Actually, I take that back- the fact that we've apparently annoyed someone as consistently obnoxious probably means we're doing a fine job. Everyone pat yourselves on the back!

Well bollocks, looks like Eraserhead has been eliminated. Personally I think it's one of his top 3 works, but that's just me.

I'm going with Wild At Heart. I really like the movie, but I wasn't happy with how the Wizard of Oz allusion was handled and the Marietta character (the mother) was fuck annoying. Willem Dafoe is fucking brilliant. Creepiest performance I've ever seen. Even so, I think it's the weakest of what's left.

I am torn between Wild at Heart, Mulholland Dr. and Twin Peaks. As much as I'd like to keep it around longer, there's too much middling material associated with Twin Peaks.

At first I thought I was going to be knocking off Mulholland here, but I just think about the atmosphere of that movie, and it makes me forget my problems with it.

Twin Peaks is my pick for this round. It shares the same good traits with Wild at Heart (great quirky characters and an interesting balance of light-hearted and dark moments), but all the middling and not so good material in TP knocks it down a peg. Mulholland Dr. gets a pass for the time being. It may have "stubbed out" characters and what not, but I feel it succeeds at being as interpretive a movie as Lost Highway thought it was. It works as a neat sort of culmination of many things he's done.

My vote is Twin Peaks, since you're lumping Season 2 in with all of it. It's the only flaw I can see on that list...assuming I can still vote.

I made the original list Triumph used and I was kind of conflicted about whether to lump everything together or break it apart. I think maybe I should have at least split the movie from the TV series since they are so tonally different, but I guess it's too late now.

I'd give the Twin Peaks movie points for mood and atmosphere (and flat out weirdness), but I still think it would have been voted out early. I think the movie is, in the end, disjointed and not very satisfying. Being that it feels so different from the series, I get the feeling it was something Lynch did out of commitment rather than the want of doing the project.

It still has some absolutely great moments, though.

What makes it even more complicated is that in no matter how approached, you are going to have to encounter The Bad Parts at some point or another. I can tell a first time watcher that it's all downhill after the first season, but due to the cliffhanger, they will be driven to continue watching, going into the less worthwhile territory.
