If you're talking about the part where the dude pulls back the tarp in the basement and the zombie jumps out and starts chomping on his skull, then yes! 

I love the premise of how the zombies came to life... They burn the chopped up parts of the one zombie in the incinerator, and the smoke from that rises into the air where a sudden rainstorm creates a virtual acid-zombie-rain that soaks into the dirt in the graveyard - where our group of teenagers just happen to be wildin' out!

I'm not sure I've ever seen the sequels.  Are they good?

I vaguely recall the second one to be passably entertaining, but definitely not up to par with the original.  The third one looked too different for me to have much interest in seeing, but at least it seems some people think it's better than the second.

What makes it so awful?  The best part of the first one is that it does not take itself seriously.  I find it difficult to believe that a movie that has that trait could truly be awful.

Because it's nothing like the first movie.  First, it does take itself seriously.  Very, very seriously.  It has a horrible, awful hackneyed, melodramatic romance subplot that is not played for laughs whatsoever.  Then, instead of getting a wide variety of whacky zombies, we get some hybrid of The Crow/Frankenstein zombie with a lust for revenge!  It was one of the worst viewing experiences of my life.  I don't brandish the "worst movie ever" tag or even mention anything in that ballpark lightly, but this is one of those cases where this film should be avoided at all costs.
