Funny read.

That's sort of the reason why I'm glad a huge chunk of the PC press, especially the reviewer circuit, is made up of freelancers with day jobs. You don't get that kind of burnout and cynicism from those types-if they ever get to the point where they hate gaming that much, they aren't trapped into it as a career like a paid and published writer is. The only downside is that some of them don't pull enough punches and/or lack professional critique skills, but you pick up on who's good and who is not pretty fast.

I still read PC gaming mags, but the Console gaming mags are a wash. Too many CHILDREN brought up from fansites. They are never forced to GROW UP during the typical "OH SHIT COLLEGE OVER NEED A JOB" phase MOST people go through.

1UP/EGM is COMPLETE trash these days, for example.

Console faggotry is pervasive-reading pretty much any console mag or news site is fucking painful. Most of the stuff is just plan amatuer and the critiques sometime miss the point of the game completely because of reviewer genre preconceptions or the reviewer's inability to evaluate game mechanics separate from narrative. Not everyone enjoys their JRPGs for story and doesn't mind sitting through terrible, disjointed cutscenes every 10 minutes in their action games.

The PC scene still has a lot of old school thirty and fourtysomethings running the show, which results in a lot more well-rounded and tempered discussions. Don't get me wrong-there's still tons of shit PC game reviews-but if you read something from a familiar name on Gamespot or Gamespy or in the now-defunct CGM, it was generally pretty spot on.

I think what I liked about the article the most was how every review was 8/10. I fell into that same rut at Gaming Age back when lol.

The simple truth is that there are A LOT of "Good Games" and it simply comes down to the time required to play them and a gamer prioritizing based off really personal reasons.

Most of the games I reviewed were from well known devs with experience and actually did, to me, objectively, fall in the 80-90 range. I dont think I ever gave a perfect score tho.

I used to wear game shirts when I was younger and always got more than a fair share of compliments, from people all over the age/race/sex board. Then again, I'm in shape, with good hygeine, and decent enough looking, so I've got that working in my favor I guess.

exactly. a triforce hoody on a pale anus h0g only DOUBLES the humiliation. if you're attractive and physically fit, folks excuse the geekery and may use it as a point of small talk, although you'd probably still be better off without it.
