woo hoo, my 360 died! now i have time to play wii and ps3!

yup, shit croaked this weekend.  i jinxed myself in another thread, i told jonnyram how my launch unit had run perfect since day one.  well, it's dust now.
 
looking forward to finishing some old PS2 games using PS3 BC.  and maybe i can finally focus on beating twilight princess.   my advice?  don't convince yourself that your unit is "stable" and going to last.  it'll die one day.

PS3/Wii isnt much of a future at all right now. People can quote hardware numbers till the cows come home but buying hardware on gimmick or blind faith is just consumers digging themselves into a hole.

I may have had to replace a 360, but the 360 has provided me with more gaming than the Wii and PS3 COMBINED will provide me with over the next two years.

i've beaten the first 2 bosses.  love the game to death.  my first run through i made it past 4 or 5 bosses.  it's been a while, but i decided to restart playing it on PS3 BC.  i need to learn how to make more efficient combos though, i'm getting interrupted in between some of them

Mine died last week, too.  I can get it to work in short bursts if I do the towel trick, but it's borked.  Same thing as Hyp...I was telling my fiance how my systems never seem to break when everyone else's do, and then I got the ring o' death.

I am still trying to decide if I should send it to Microsoft for repair (14,800 yen) or buy a new core system (28,000 yen).  I hear if you send it to them, MS just sends back a refurbed system that will ultimately fuck up again in the same way...that's why I'm thinking about getting a new system.  I hear Bic Camera stores offer a five year warranty, and I just so hapen to be going to Tokyo this weekend...

Meanwhile, I've been playing THE SAVIOR OF THE WII, Biohazard 4, and today is Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3.

I'd love to be able to do that.  It's too bad all the stores here have no warantees whatsoever.  If shit breaks, you have to send it to the company.

Widespread reports claim that Microsoft is offering consumers struck by Xbox 360 overheating problems an extra heatsink to combat recurrence of the problem. Heatsinks are designed to keep the internal components of machinery cool.

The rumor first emerged on French site Logic-Sunrise, but has since infiltrated the Internet, with pictures of the new heatsink appearking on sites such as Engadget (via MaxConsole.net).

Next-Gen has contacted Microsoft for comment, although we've yet to receive word.

While Microsoft has always denied that overheating is an inherent problem caused by manufacturing faults, multiple users have complained of experiencing the problem, some on multiple occasions.

It is unclear whether the added heatsink is only being applied to 360s that have been sent in for repair due to overheating or whether Microsoft is planning to install the extra cooling protection in new consoles also.

Back in May, Microsoft's corporate VP of entertainment Peter Moore sidestepped questions concerning Xbox 360 failure rates, instead choosing to focus on the customer service offered in the advent of system problems.

So today my buddy comes over and we set out to find the tools needed to do the x-clamp mod.  The hardware store doesn't have what we need, but we decide to open the 360 and take a look anyway.  We can't even get all the pieces off to open it properly...fuck it.   

I take my second PSP and some games and go sell it all off, and walk out with the surprising sum of 31,000 yen!  This is enough to buy a 360 core, so I'm set.

We head over to the biggest electronics store here to pick up a core.  They're sold out of them, but instead have new core packs with Trusty Bell plus a bonus faceplate, clock, and soundtrack CD, all for 31,000 yen.  Not too shabby; I don't give a crap about Trusty Bell, but I'll take it.  These have to be the newest systems out in Japan, too, so they have to be good, right? 

WRONG.

I get home, hook it up, and get weird static/colors all over the screen.  Fuck.  Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK!!!    :'(  I figure I'm screwed, but hey, I have a new warranty with Microsoft so I can send it to them free of charge.  (maybe)

My buddy convinces me to head back to the store to exchange the system.  I think it's pointless since every store I've been to, including that one, told me before that all warranties are handled by Microsoft, so if it breaks, you have to send it to them.

But they took it back and exchanged it for a new one!!   

And so far, so good.  No problems, although I can't get it connected to the internet.  Always something.  The broken unit got on no problem; this one is giving me IP errors.  MORE FUN! 

Plus now that I switched the HDD, my videos won't play because of my region, and some XBLA games have to now be played on my other account.  AND I always have to be online to play XBLA games.  If this system breaks and my warranty is up, I really will be done with MS.  Even I can't bring myself to buy a system for a third time.

If you're outside the region the videos come from, like say...the U.S. (Which is like 99% of all the video content on Live) forget about downloading, purchasing, or even previewing videos, TV shows, and movies.  In Japan there's jack shit.

Doesn't have anything to do with where your system and Xbox Live I.D. are from either.  It's I.P. based.
