I just don't get it. I love the poker scenes. I thought they were balanced enough to make the film entertaining. I mean, lots of shit happened during and between them.

It's an 8.5 at least. The action in the beginning is indeed good, although somewhat of a "wtf is going on" moment. My problem is the casino scenes, and what happens after the final casino scene. Including the twist

Well duh. The first half is superior because that's the meat of the movie. It sets up the second half, which ain't bad itself.

The first half is almost a 10/10 imo, while the grown up bits are a 8.5. Overall: 9.5

casino royale wasn't bad -- bond was really hardcore and off-the hook, which is a great change from the pierce brosnan smarm -- but MAN that movie has serious fucking pacing issues. i watched it last night after 5 eps of the shield and i fell asleep about halfway into it.

BrandNew, Im one of the biggest CR supporters youll find, but its biggest flaw is EASILY pacing/structure issues. For starters, its got one of the most bizarre structures ever. The first third is an action movie, the second third is a suspense/thriller, and the final third is a love story. How many blockbusters contain 90% of their action in the first 40 minutes? And finally, it could have used some editing. At almost 2.5 hours, I think a good 15-20 mimutes of fat could have been trimmed. But I tend to let that slide, as origin films are often bulky like this. Bond 22 should hopefully be leaner and meaner now that we've got the introduction of the 21st century Bond out of the way.

i agree with the pacing issues but it was only in the last 15 minutes orso. it gave a lotr:rotk vibe and i was thinking: ''why is this taking so long?'' i guess i didn't mind it that much because there was still a little twist after that but it could use some editing in that part, yes.
