I am going with Sly Cooper. I have not played the sequels yet, but I immensely enjoyed the original game to death, and I can safely say that out of these three, it is definitely the best platformer. It's rare for me to throw praise towards a 3d platformer, but Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus is just plain awesome shit.

While I do think Ratchet series is good stuff, they pretty much fail when it comes to platforming. Yeah, Sly isn't that much difficult either but who cares? It still places a greater emphasis on platforming.

I've never been a Jak fan to be honest.

It's really interesting to see American developers kick the pants off of the Japanese developers when it comes to platformers these days. Hopefully we get new platformer IP's next gen, Sony or whatever.

Sly Cooper is my favorite, with Ratchet and Clank coming in a close second. I really liked the original Jak and Daxter, but once they moved the game into the future and gave Jak a gun, I lost all interest.

I can't wait to see how Ratchet & Clank Future turns out, and I really hope that Sucker Punch unveils their debut PS3 title at E3.

I wanted to like the original Jak and Daxter, but something felt off, whether the contrls or interface or what. I didn't have much fun with it. I actually like Jak 2 though.

I made this thread because I realized I need to get the rest of Sly, Ratchet, and Jak series.

Have you played Sly 2 and 3, Distant? How are they?

Sly 2 and 3 are great fun, my wife brought them home and we played through them together pretty quick last summer.

I'm glad Naughty Dog held off on bringing another Jak game to the PS3 so soon, and gave us a new IP instead. Uncharted looks awesome.

I've only played Rachet and Clank. It's not much of a platformer, but I liked it.

Ratchet & Clank is the biggest reason to own a PlayStation over a Nintendo or Xbox.  It's 3D platforming at its greatest that no other platformer in 3D can match.

Jak is a really, really good series too, but I still give the edge to Ratchet.  Sly is good, but not really the greatest IMO.

Where's Ape Escape?? :(  IMO, not as good as Ratchet or Jak, but definitely better than Sly.

Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD = GotY 2007  :D

I have yet to be enamored by a 3D platformer in the way I was by the 2D platformers of old... the closest was the bonus levels in Mario Sunshine, but there was so much other BS that game had in there.

A lot of people seemed disappointed with Sly 2 and 3 vs 1. I know my brother loved all of them but he doesn't get to play as many games as griping forum posters.

Ratchet and Clank seemed to get less and less platformy with each installment.

I've only played Jak 3 and it didn't do much for me. Daxter on PSP is awesome though.

Haven't played Sly Cooper, fuck Jak.

edit: No way in hell Ratchet is the ultimate 3D platformer. Even the first one isn't much for platforming, and the further along the series goes the further it gets from a platformer. Ricco Harbor alone shits on Ratchet 2-4.

Yeah, Ratchet's pretty cool, but no way the best.

I bought Jak a couple months ago for $5 new. I didn't like it very much and quit pretty close to the end. It reminded me of a Rare collectathon too much.

I played a 3 stage demo of Sly Cooper though, and that game was shit hot. I never did buy it though, maybe I'll look into it.

jak 1 >> ratchet 2 >> ratchet 3 >> jak 3>> sly 1 >> ratchet 1 >> sly 3 >> sly 2 >> jak 2

Jak and Daxter 1 is still the best platform game of the last generation. Too bad the sequels weren't the same. Too much focused on action.

Ratchet and Clank is awesome too. I love the weapons and the level up system. Great action platformer.

Sly is great too, but also the worst platformer out of the three, IMO.

Sony really has great platform IP's.

I am glad I am not the only one. I LOOOVED Jak & Daxter but did not like Jak 2 at all (never played 3 after the horrible Jak 2)

I'm gonna say Maximo was my favorite platformer of last gen.  Army of Zin isn't particularly bad either, but I feel like it loses a lot of the platforming focus, which is what I enjoyed most about the first game, in favor of more action.  Overall, the series (excluding prior GnG perfection) is at least better than Sly Cooper.
