Yuck yuck yuck, damn this game is so ugly. It upscales so terribly. The whole picture looks dirty, aliased and brown. It looks like every Wii game that isn't completely colorful at all times will have those brownish tints. I'd reckon that the PS2 port when used on a PS3, will look better. And that really is no joke. The tackled on implementation of Wii Remote control isn't so awful (for once), but don't give your money to Capcom and Nintendo because they don't deserve it.

It's really unbelievable to discover how the GameCube had 3-4x times better image quality than its successor.  :maf

So should I skip out on getting the Wiimake and just play my Gamecube version instead? I was looking forward to seeing how the Wii controls worked, too.

Well, aiming the gun to shoot zombies isn't so bad and is pretty cool, but for the rest... I don't see what the Wii enhances in this game at all.

Some parts feel like more of an hassle, like you have to tilt the Wiimote in order to hit with the knife, an unnecessary arm contortion for something that would feel better with just a button.

Unless anamorphic 16:9 is crucial to you, then yeah, it looks like it's preferable to skip this title.

Fair enough. I play on a regular SDTV anyways. I'm sure after I played it for a bit I'd just get sick of it and not even finish it anyways seeing as though I've finished it a few times on the Gamecube. Thanks!

Isn't knife-slashing also activated by a button? C, maybe?

not to be a dick, but did you really expect this game to look better on the wii?   i don't think capcom has ever made image enhancements to their re-releases aside from RE1 on the GC.  this is a renter for me since i own the GC version already.

it's not a question of graphical enhancements, it's a question of the Wii's own poor video signal which ruins the whole experience

I still can't believe how well 480p GameCube games upscale even on 1080p HDTVs

wut? every flat-panel HDTV upscales any incoming source to its native resolution

it's simply a matter of how good its internal scaler is

and it helps when the source is clean and interference-free too... I really couldn't believe the difference seen when playing Ikaruga on both a Wii and a GameCube with component cables... the explosions had colors that looked SO rich on the latter, it was like a whole other game... whereas the former literally looked like shit with the brownish tints

greatly enhanced Zelda too... that's a really shitty move from Nintendo, ESPECIALLY at an age where we're all getting huge flat-panel HDTVs with gigantic resolutions that reveal all the blemishes of SDTV material

I'm think I'm going to keep all the great Wii games on the backburner (if some are ever released, that is), and wait to play them on the Wii's sucessor which according to Nintendo, will have PS3-like technology at a cheap price, and should be backward compatible with the previous generation... now we'll finally have acceptable picture quality out of Wii games, along with internal 1080p upconversion

No you don't.  You can just hold down the knife button and slash with the attack button like normal.  I never did that waggle stuff.

It looks just like the GC version, only with true 16:9.  RE4 has not aged well and doesn't look that great on an HDTV, but the controls are awesome and it looks decent enough.  It's worth checking out in you loved RE4 and also if you never played the PS2 version.  Separate Ways is a nice bonus.  If you felt satisfied with the game before, I wouldn't bother...nothing is actually new.

After having finished this game, my Wii has gone back to collecting dust again.  I really do wonder what's keeping this system selling so well.

After having spent like five hours playing the game, I'm really not ready to say that the Wii controls provide an enhanced experience. It works decently enough, but all in all it feels like more of an hassle than the use of a traditional dual analog gamepad.

When you aim to fire the gun, you also have to use the nunchuk's analog stick in order to move the camera, so that the aiming dot faces enemies that might be off screen. To aim might be a little bit less instantaneous and precise than when using the remote, but it's easier to manage when gaming.

And a huge part of what makes RE4 look dated on Wii is definitely to blame on the system's mediocre video output.

After having finished this game, my Wii has gone back to collecting dust again.  I really do wonder what's keeping this system selling so well.

It's less than 250$. It's slim, a feature that has become an enormous trend (just look at the lingering success of the redesigned PS2). It has the look of an Ipod, and the controller looks like what it feels like to handle an Ipod. And because of this "trendy" allure, it's hyped a lot in the medias who otherwise wouldn't bother discussing games. When these types of casual audiences read about games, their cynicism doesn't run deep. That's it, that's all.

I'll confirm that this looks worse than the GC version.  It appears to have worse anti-aliasing. Any vertical lines you see on textures are very shimmery.  There's no argument when it comes to the Wii having worse IQ than the GC.

It plays pretty well though.

Yeah.  I figured it would naturally be a pretty good port.  People keep telling me to retry RE4 because I hated it the first umpteen times, I figured why not?  The game is utterly brilliant up until the escort missions kick in.

great game, and one of last generation's finest, but honestly... I preferred the other main games in the Resident Evil series for the most part

they were mostly about exploration of dark areas, storytelling and mystery, whereas in this you constantly run around the environment and pick up items, it feels more like Tomb Raider with an horror setting than like the RE I used to know

you can see that CliffyB ripped it off big style when making Gears of War too

anyhow, I really can't believe how talented Capcom is for everything that concerns game cinematography, the original RE was a revolution in the world of games, and this also pushed the enveloppe a whole lot in early 2005... today it still looks extremely good, just fuck wow

You know, I don't think Wii is the death of gaming. I have nothing against Wii aside from the lack of technological prowess and (currently) extreme gimmicky controls in its games. If devs can develop games with controls that aren't ridiculous and suit the Wii, and offer good experience, I'm all for it. But if we get more SSX Blur's and Sonic and the Secret Rings, I'll be miffed.

Wii is only the death of gaming if a shift to non games and the like are created.

If we still get interesting looking games (No More Heroes) I won't complain, and the chances of devs completely abandoning 360 and ps3 is unlikely.

Jesus fuck out of boredom I tried Pokemon Battle Revolution to see how the game looked and FUCK IT'S UGLY!

Why has every Wii game such prominent BROWN tints? It's un-fucking-believable that I can play old interlaced PS2 games on a very high-rez HDTV LCD panel with MUCH better sharpness, MUCH better colors and MUCH less interference!

Wee-wee = ugliest picture quality ever, it's seriously inferior to that of a 20$ Taiwanese Wal-Mart DVD player

TVC, so you claim that the Wii image quality is worse than GC as well?  Fuck.

Mondain, can you find out exactly what year GC I need to rebuy for my collection?

I've got this game on both GC and Wii, and will likely pick up the GC Twilight Princess for my collection as well.  This is really shitty news to find out Nintendo, especially when I'm getting ready to buy an hdtv.

I'm going with a 45-50 Samsung DLP, is that a bad choice having a wii?  I'm going to get a 360 down the line, but the wii will be my console for the summer at least.

I heard wiis look better on some hdtvs than others, it depends on the scaler, but I can never find out any info about tv scalers and which ones are considered good.

there really is something rotten in the Wii's video output, no matter how good an HDTV's scaler is, it's still going to look very very bad

if you want one of the good GameCube systems with component out, you need one that's manufactured between 2001 and like early 2004... don't know how to check that

but of course all brand new GameCube systems sold in stores don't have it

Well, I'd have HD cable, so it's not essentially pointless.  I don't really game that much anymore, and my current TV is dying a long slow death (I bet it's older than some/most on this forum).  It's essentially incapable of playing games without built in brightness adjusters, so Zelda Wii is unplayable on my current TV.  Getting a 360 for my current TV would be way more pointless then getting an HDTV for my wii.

Also, I forgot to say, but the 360 has been out 18 months without a price drop or hardware revision.  Only a moron would buy one right now, no offense if someone can't wait.  I'm not touching a 360 until at least a price drop and more likely a hardware revision.

Why don't you buy a 360, then get the HDTV? Then you'd have a shiny new console for the summer, instead of a TV that is essentially pointless without some kind of HD input.

Fair points. I'm not convinced they'll be dropping the price anytime soon, but I might just be saying that because Michael Pachter says they will.

I bought my 360 when I still had a shitty SD TV. I think there's enough games to make it worthwhile, but I can see where you're coming from - especially if the TV is actually a bit fucked.

They did just release that "Elite" version though, so it will probably be a little while before either of those things.

Well, wasn't the Elite a limited edition?  I don't see what the Elite has to do with a price drop on an electronic item that's nearing 2 years old though.  There may not be a price drop this christmas, but if there isn't, I'd say MS is missing an opportunity.  I'll probably have to get one for Mass Effect if/when that game ever comes out.  Would be nice to have one for Halo 3 also, but it's not necessary for me.

The Elite's not limited edition. Incidentally, I completely agree that MS would be missing a great opportunity if they don't drop the price, but I believe the gaming division is under a bit of pressure to stay profitable. They won't drop unless Sony forces their hand.
