Why wouldn't it be compatible with the bongo controllers?

that will be the deal breaker for me.  i own 4 fuckin' bongos -- if i can't use em, i'm skipping on this all together.  does look cool though.

Gamestop sells new bongos for $4.99 each. At least they were a few months ago.

I own a set of bongos and Jungle Beat (was $10 brand new), and I'm far from a Nintendo fan.  :lol
