Teaser for P.T. Anderson's upcoming masterpiece and your personal forthcoming movie of the year:

Daniel Day Lewis is godly.  With any luck, this should be nothing short of mind blowing.

I hope P.T. Anderson gets his hands tied behind his back in the editing room.  Fucker always makes his movies run about twenty minutes too long.

I don't get the P.T.A. hype.  He's made one decent flick, one that apes Scorcese and is hardly a landmark film (Boogie Nights).  He's one of the few directors that I can honestly watch and go, "What's the big fucking deal, bitch?"  He honestly doesn't really bring anything new to the table and has a tendency to regurgitate other, superior filmmakers and not nearly as entertaining as other ripoff artists (Tarantino, M. Night, etc.).

I think Boogie Nights is a pretty fantastic movie.  Maybe it's not the most original thing stylistically, but it's probably one of the most entertaining movies of the 90s.  And Alfred Molina is awesome in it.

Magnolia is like, 33% good, 33% zzzz, and 33% too indulgent.

Punch-Drunk Love is pretty good, but it's an off-kilter black comedy in a vein somewhat similar to Todd Solondz (except without the creepy sexual overtones), making it the sort of thing one would not watch frequently, and it's not the sort of thing most people would appreciate at all. Of all his movies, I think this one is the most interesting to talk about because it is so strange.

Trailer looked kinda...boring. I'll wait for a longer trailer that sheds more light on the story.

Alfred Molina does indeed rock in it.  Boogie Nights is the only P.T.A. flick I can get behind - it's pretty good.  I enjoyed it a lot, even though it does drag.  Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love are snoozefests.

The only bad part of Boogie Nights, and it is otherwise an incredible movie, is that Dirk goes from being at the top of the industry to the bottom REALLY quickly.  I understand things happen quickly, but for the most part, it just didn't happen in an acceptable manner.  Dirk gets hooked on coke and flushes his career, yes, it is clear, but it isn't portrayed all that well (although PTA's portrayals of coked up folks are always great, I wonder why).

Luckily, the movie picks up from that lagging period and brings on the awesome Molina ending.  It works so well that I forget all of its sins.

i loved magnolia, boogie nights and hard eight. they might be long but i guess they're the type of movies that you have to be in the mood for

i haven't seen punch drunk love yet, but i read great things about sandler's non-comedic performance.
