Contra IV DS
« on: June 20, 2007, 12:13:01 PM »
-2-D Side scroller   :gun
-Developed by Wayforward (Shantae, Sigma Star Saga, Ping Pals  :lol)
-Grappling Hook

Your thoughts? I'm personally worried about Wayforward being in charge, Sigma Star Saga had a nice concept and good sprite art but terrible execution, so I'm hoping Konami has some people from their Japanese location overseeing the development process. Contra is an extremely hit-or-miss series (The first 2 on NES and Alien Wars on SNES are some of my favorite games of all time), so...

Why couldn't they have given this series to Treasure? After their reinvention of the Gradius series, I would love to see their take on Contra, especially since I hold Gunstar Heroes in such high regard.

The backgrounds and sprites will be awesome, but I'm not sure if this is the right team for the job. WayForward must be cheering at the chance to work on a real game, though (not to mention a series that probably helped inspire them).

Grappling hook. Turrican? Some good could come of this.

Dunno. The guys who worked on both Contra SS and Neo Contra seem to have scattered after Neo, so that game's failure probably had something to do with why they seemingly haven't done anything since.  Nobuya Nakazato (dir. Contra 3, Contra: SS; prod. Neo Contra) fell out of sight after Neo, too.

Not yet, though I heard the Japanese version of Nanostray was a lot better, since it lacked the stupid touch-screen weapon selection.

nanostray's problems were a lot bigger than touchscreen weapon selection.

i don't know what to think about contra 4 either -- wayforward's involvement virtually guarantees that it wont be some 1st gen polygonal abortion. but sigma star saga blew. and it doesn't even seem like they're very familiar with the series -- they think bill, lance, mad dog, and scorpion are four separate people, and i think they're calling it 'contra 4' out of ignorance rather than arrogance. there are a lot of things i wish were different here, but i'm kind of excited that we're getting a new game in this genre at all.

Why does it have to be on the DS?  Why call it Contra 4?  DOWNGRADE AM TOTAL.
