Waiting for the Miracle: The Appreciation Thread
« on: June 22, 2007, 01:38:06 AM »
Quote from: Leonard COhen
Baby, I've been waiting,
I've been waiting night and day.
I didn't see the time,
I waited half my life away.
There were lots of invitations
and I know you sent me some,
but I was waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.
I know you really loved me.
but, you see, my hands were tied.
I know it must have hurt you,
it must have hurt your pride
to have to stand beneath my window
with your bugle and your drum,
and me I'm up there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Ah I don't believe you'd like it,
You wouldn't like it here.
There ain't no entertainment
and the judgements are severe.
The Maestro says it's Mozart
but it sounds like bubble gum
when you're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Waiting for the miracle
There's nothing left to do.
I haven't been this happy
since the end of World War II.

Nothing left to do
when you know that you've been taken.
Nothing left to do
when you're begging for a crumb
Nothing left to do
when you've got to go on waiting
waiting for the miracle to come.

I dreamed about you, baby.
It was just the other night.
Most of you was naked
Ah but some of you was light.
The sands of time were falling
from your fingers and your thumb,
and you were waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come

Ah baby, let's get married,
we've been alone too long.
Let's be alone together.
Let's see if we're that strong.
Yeah let's do something crazy,
something absolutely wrong
while we're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Nothing left to do ...

When you've fallen on the highway
and you're lying in the rain,
and they ask you how you're doing
of course you'll say you can't complain --
If you're squeezed for information,
that's when you've got to play it dumb:
You just say you're out there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE: Having someone eat out your ass while you sing the titular Leonard Cohen song, and then surprise pooping in the other person's mouth whenever you deem that they have waited long enough for "the miracle."

Quote
Guns that cross the street
You never know who you might meet
Who's in disguise
Ooh as you blow a storm
There's no one there to keep you warm
It's no surprise
There's something in my eyes

Chorus:
It's a miracle
It's a miracle
It's a miracle
It's a miracle
It's a miracle
It's a miracle
And dreams are made of emotion

Dance with the COUNT OF FEET (counterfeit)
The plastic smiles and micro heat
I'll meet you there
Run to the edge of town
Where Hollywood LAID (lays) its footprints down
Monroe was there
But do you really care

(chorus)

Guns that cross the street
You never know who you might meet
Who's in disguise
Ooh as you blow a storm
There's no one there to keep you warm
It's no surprise
There's something in my eyes

(chorus)

Cry it's a miracle(x4)

One of the few good things about Natural Born Killers.  I loved this song when the soundtrack was released.

One of the few good things about Natural Born Killers.  I loved this song when the soundtrack was released.

Three songs from this album are on the soundtrack.  It's clearly what Stone was listening to when he made the movie, which is kind of weird because the subject matter doesn't really match up.  Allegedly, Stone was all hopped up on drugs at the time, so I guess that explains everything.  Still, the sound of the song works great with that opening.

I almost love Natural Born Killers.  It's a mess, but I can see what he was getting at. . .but it's a mess.

Read Killer Instinct by Jane Hamsher. The parts about driving around the desert listening to music like Cohen whilst eating mushrooms on location scout are pretty funny. You also get to read what a real-life prick Quentin Tarantino was when he first blew up in Hollywood.

If you remember offhand, what was QUentin's problem with his script?  I read that almost all of the dialogue in the completed film was his, but his big I Hate This Movie stiicking point was that Oliver Stone tried to make it a satire instead of playing it like the straigh Bonnie and Clyde type of flick Quentin wanted.

Is that covered in the book?  It's not the best movie ever, but it's good (and artfully-enough shot) that as a young up-and-comer, I'd want my name more firmly attached to it.

One of the only movies I've ever walked out on. I had just discovered the joys of marijuana and my friends & I thought it would be fun to get all smoked out and go see it. It was just TOO MUCH FOR MY MIND TO HANDLE.

Not too long after that I dropped acid and saw Lost Highway in the movie theater. My friend said I kept pulling on my cheeks and moaning "unnnnnng".

This is what I thought while watching it.  The visuals, the fast cuts, the different colored filters, the split second splices of creepy figures, the use of like 3 different types of cameras.  -- it's a damned schizophrenic movie to look at, and then you throw in the content.  Yikes.

That's kind of why I thought Oliver was gourded when making the movie.  The movie looks like drugs!  And it also doesn't tell its story or get its point across as well as it could have, as well as Stone had done with difficult material in the past.

It really DOES look like drugs, goddamn.

Didn't he get busted for possession while making that movie? Shrooms or some shit?

I think it was more a matter of QT not needing the money or the work. He sold the option on True Romance at a time when he really needed it. He also indicated that Reservoir Dogs, True Romance and Natural Born Killers were all written around the same time with the same frame of mind and that he only really intended to make one of them. Also he made comment to the effect that Oliver Stone makes statements with his films while QT prefers to just make "movies".

Offhand, do you know what QT thinks of True Romance?

He says he likes what Tony Scott did with it. It would seem that he has more in common with Scott than Stone.

Quentin later used NBK cinematographer Robert Richardson in Kill Bill which I always thought was interesting.

I think that's understandable. There are some serious issues with NBK, but the film looks absolutely incredible.  The editing is also excellent.
