Quote
WILLIAM SHATNER is furious with STAR TREK movie bosses for failing to offer him a cameo role in the new film, according to reports.
The actor, who played Captain Kirk in the iconic TV show, is said to be "very upset and has been lobbying for a role" in Star Trek XI after learning his co-star Leonard Nimoy has been cast in a minor role, writes the New York Daily News.
Larry Thompson, Shatner's manager, refuted the allegations, saying, "I don't know that to be the case, so I can't comment." The movie, which will be directed by Lost producer and director J.J. Abrams, is slated to begin shooting later this year (07).

Shatner really wanted to have a small role in the re-boot of the Star Trek universe and has lobbyed hard for it, but it turns out they don't want him and are using just Nimoy instead.  :lol

I do wonder though, since both Nimoy and Shatner have been basically publicly asking to be involved in the reboot as cameo's and I doubt Nimoy would say yes knowing Shatner was shunned, but meh we'll find out at comic-con. Abrams said all the casting info will be revealed at a Star Trek XI panel there with the cast.

Shatner wasn't publicly asking to be involved in the reboot.  The story Shatner told was that Abrams had asked him and Nimoy to be in the reboot in opening and closing flash-forward sequences (the movie itself taking place as a flashback).  Shatner was amused that, when he told Abrams that he couldn't do the cameo because his character had been killed off in Generations, Abrams was shocked since he'd never seen the movie.

So again, I call bullshit.

Ah. And yeah Abrams has never seen Generations, Abrams says the only Star Trek to him is the Kirk/Spock/McCoy stuff though he has seen some tng. Which makes sense. Because when he pitched his idea to Paramount he envisioned reviving the franchise as a James Bond like franchise. A film series with the same lead character (Kirk) on an adventure who will be recast over time. And if this film is a hit, Star Trek WILL be the Captain Kirk franchise.

Which is part of the reason I won't be suprised if come ComicCon Kirk will NOT be played by Damon but by a somewhat unknown. Paramount will want to get 4-5 films out the actor probably.

Except not? He is the one factor that makes this film possibly good. He has two of his alias writers penning the script from a story by him and the head writer of lost.
Come on, the fact that the Lost/Alias crew is behind this is like the only reason this film has a chance at being good.

It will have the FANTASTIC lost composer doing the music for this, I can't wait for that. One of the most exciting parts to me.
