Wow, that's terrible. That auditorium looks like some kind of tetris abortion, whereas the townhouses had some real charm to them. :(

I forget the term for this (or if there even is a term), but there's a phenomenon where certain public buildings are designed to look ugly/utilitarian, so the taxpayers don't feel like money is being wasted on frills.

And the opposite of whatever that term is would be "seattle public library."

That library rocks-it's like they took a section of 1970s large-scale space station concept construction and slapped a bunch of glass on it.

My wife works right across the street from the downtown Seattle public library on 4th Ave, it's a fun place to walk around in when I pick her up to go see a movie.

It is a really fun building to walk around in.  The inside is as interesting as the outside, as far as layout goes.

The use of extremely bright primary colors to illuminate rooms is interesting.
