America
« on: June 23, 2007, 01:43:50 PM »
"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together.  I've got some real estate here in my bag."  So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies.  And we walked off to look for America

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh.  "Michigan seems like a dream to me now."  It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw.  I've gone to look for America.

Laughing on the bus, playing games with the faces.  She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy.  I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera."

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat."
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine.  And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping "I'm empty and aching and I don't know why"
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike, they've all gone to look for America.
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

If you've seen one US city, you've seen them all man. They all have hobos, mcdonalds, gas stations, and wal-mart.

Despite contrary opinions, I like America and would like to visit it. Though America is what New York, LA and Houston. The rest is probably missable.

But in San Francisco the hobos run all of those.

LA, Houston, and New York are actually probably the most miserable cities in America.

Houston REPRESENT nicca!

Houston actually isn't that bad outside of the weather.  It has a lot of cool things to offer, the layout of the city is terrible though.  It's a fugly fucking city.

Eh Houston was the only big southern city I could think of apart from New Orleans.

Houston really is the only big Southern city.  Houston is in a totally different field of "big" compared to New Orleans.

What about Atlanta? Pretty built up metropolis... even though it seems most of the population is in the 'burbs, that sprawl on forever...

It doesn't have as much to do as a typical metropolis city though. Compared to LA, San Fran, and NYC, Houston blows.

Houston's surge in population was much quicker than any of those cities though.  Houston is still catching up with it's population by building more houses, expanding highways etc.  The same goes for it's leisure activities.  Houston is making a name for itself for good restaurants, clubs and shopping.  Not to mention, it's music scene is growing rapidly too.  We have plenty of historical sites to see.  We have lakes you can take a boat on, the ocean nearby, mountains to hike etc.  We had the underground city before the floods 6 years ago.  That's kind of rebuilding, although it's nothing like it used to be.

Atlanta is one of the shittiest cities in the country.

Midwest is probably the best region to go to. Chicago and St. Louis

True.  I love it, but Atlanta is miserable.  It's way too hot, way too populated, traffic really fucking sucks, and there's a shitload of nothing there.

edit:  There's no reason for anyone visiting the US to visit Atlanta.

Chicago seems one of the better places to live in America, though I'm not really sure I'd visit it if I was limited for time.

Other than it being the birthplace of the Lyte Edge.   :o

I was born in Atlanta, and moved to Long Island when I was 5.  Moved back when I was close to 12 years old.  You don't know how fucking badly I wanted to go back to New York during my school years.  Atlanta sucks in comparison; it's this sprawled out traffic heavy, international city-wannabe that really has jack shit to offer.  I will admit that there are some nice places to live and it doesn't cost as much as some other major cities, though.

Oh and downtown Atlanta is such a dirty shithole.

But with all that said, I'd move back there, if only to be near my family and friends again.

Do you remember where you lived when you lived in LI? And don't forget that LI is pretty sprawled out and traffic heavy, and to do anything interesting requires a trip into the city. And it's EXPENSIVE AS FUCK to live in.
