Well, Im really grateful I was born in America and not in a third world country. Im grateful for alot of things america offers and the fact that we enjoy a great government with elections etc.. For the most part America ia  damn fine country. If current immigration trends continue we will be a countryfull of people who don't appreciate the what makes the country so great. The immigration laws are there for a reason, to say that they dont matter just undermines the whole process.

I really dont see how letting in 200 million people who are willing to work for less than minimum wage will help our economy. Yea sure stock in Wal-Mart will go up, but Its not gonna help the country in the long run.

The feds are owned by lobbyists. . .corporations, not the people.  And we can't get rid of the people that are in the pockets of Big Business because our choices are limited to 2-3 people per election, making it a game of picking who sucks least, not who's the best for the people.  To add insult to the shitty situation, lame stump issues like gay marriage, or abortion are used to get the masses to vote by their morals, encouraging them to vote with their hearts instead of seeing that although the candidate may be anti-abortion, he sure has taken lots of money from big oil or the tobacco industry.

US politics are hopelessly busted.  There are many good things about America, but the government is not one of them.

In an ideal, free market, happy time world, no.  Borders are a necessity.  Nations, and not just the US, really do need to look into immigration reform, though.  They way most countries have it set up, you are basically trapped in the country you are born in.

Regarding the OP, Lou Dobbs is a horrible source of information about immigration (as is the Heritage Foundation).  A few weeks ago he was trying to gin up a story about how illegal immigrants were spreading leprosy (!!!), which turned out to be pretty much a complete lie.

Also, "legal status" is not the same as citizenship.  It covers guest workers, student visas, etc.  So FoC's point about how quickly someone gets citizenship is just wrong.

I'm saying that I'm no more deserving of being allowed to stay in the US over the next guy, simply because I so happened to be born here... so I don't care if people are given amnesty. I didn't jump through any hoops either.

I wish there existed, and I knew of some sort of world citizenship... and with it, you'd be allowed to live and work the world over... eventually finding that one place you really love. That'd be rad.

Also, it'd be SWEET if there was an official second language... something everyone learns in addition to their native tongue.
