Anyone read Asimov's Foundation series?
« on: June 25, 2007, 03:27:08 AM »
I picked up a bunch of Asimov books tonight, and among them are his Foundation books.

I'm pretty sure I've got everything in the series, though as I understand it, he tied in some of his other series to the same universe later on.

The books I have are as follows:

Prelude to Foundation
Forward the Foundation
Foundation
Foundation and Empire
Second Foundation
Foundation's Edge
Foundation and Earth

What I'm wondering is, should I start with the preludes, or should I begin with Foundation itself and read everything as it was published (putting the preludes at the end)?

Go in the order they were written.

Foundation
Foundation and Empire
Second Foundation

Foundation's Edge
Foundation and Eart

Prelude
Forward the Foundation

After those 3, in my opinion (well, most people's opinion) the series has run its course.  The Galactic Empire series, which is tied in, is good, too.

I was hoping I'd get a response. Now I know what to read tonight.

Note that some of the things I said might not be worth reading may not be that bad.  I haven't looked at this stuff since I was 18 or 19 and I was a lot more dumb then.  Asimov was always an absolute charm to read, and if you like the original trilogy, keep going!  Just know that it peaks in the original run.
