The thing about Gamespot I like the most is Rich Gallup. 


He does a MUCH better job then Andrew Pfiester (Skip) at production, and doesn't get all pissy if someone insults him or his show.

IGN currently writes better reviews than 1UP or EGM. I usually hit Gamespot first tho, cause even tho some of their reviews are meh, its always clear they played the fukin games.

I dunno, IGN really pissed me off with their God Hand review. It's obvious that they didn't play the game for more than an hour. Probably not even that long.

Nah, I quit a long time ago. I stopped writing reviews when I noticed everything I review I put out started sounding the same, very mechanical. That was a pretty clear indicator that I had lost the passion I once had for gaming journalism and opted out so I could focus on a real career and continue to enjoy gaming on my own terms as a hobby.

Back when ANY ad made lots of money..a LONG time ago..the people who performed most of the site operations received a bit of the cut, about 400 a month. The rest went to server upkeep and upgrades. However, considering the amount of time Patrick and I spent working on GA during the busier times that was the wage of slave labor. Again, I DID love doing it back then.

Writers for most computer-gaming magazines tend to be older and at least have a minor degree in journalism or something. Most gaming mag jockeys were plucked from fansites, never having to learn how to conduct themselves as an adult in the adult workplace. Most of them are 25+ year old man-children who run around with their chests puffed out.

Also PC Accelerator was one of the best magazines ever made.

Also, I think his Benoit thread was commentary on the hypocrisy on gaming message boards.  We have people that are always saying there is NOTHING wrong in releasing a game like Manhunt 2 and proclaming free speech, but at the same time the same people got "offended" with Drinky´s Benoit Game, even though a game like that would not be that much different than MH2 in concept.

That or Drinky just wanted to have fun.

I'd still do freelance for vanity purposes. That's about it though, I far prefer playing games with my freetime, though banging out a good review really doesn't take more than an hour and change-any more, and it's probably too long or formulaic because you didn't have a good angle on the game coming into it.

The way I rank reviews are:
1up/IGN review<Gametrailer's video reviews<somebody on a forum<cross-referencing gamespot and other credible sites' reviews.

if it's somebody on a forum you can at least ask them what their tastes are like and they'll usually be honest.  Gametrailer's doesn't really give as much gameplay details and it's basically to give you a summary of what to expect if you like the genre.  I like that they're unbiased in their reviews but places like gamespot put a lot of time into their reviews to make you be able to tell what are the good and bag things about the games.

I've just been extremely suspicious of reviews/impressions/word-of-mouth of games ever since I played MGS and returned it after a couple hours.  I don't think I'll play a Kojima game again because him just making it will make the reviews unfair.
