Yes, Live Free or Die Hard is the best film in the series since the first.

Discuss.

Lone has been going crazy about it in IRC all night.

I will eat crow now. I kinda wish I saw it with no expectations though. Now everyone is hyping it up.

Die Hard 4 is a fantastic movie, I am speechless how well it turned out. EVERYTHING about it should have sucked.

Bring on Die Hard 5 now. Yes its PG-13 but it PUSHES PG-13. Every other word is "shit" and way more violent than nearly every action movie that are PG-13.

It's getting GREAT reviews and all the haters on gaf and the like who have seen it are praising it.

The boycott is over! Willis won.

I'm still kinda waiting for Wasabi's assessment. Lone said he liked Pirates 3. His opinion is therefore worthless.

The fact the movie is getting shockingly good reviews from the mainstream press doesn't help? Pirates 3 and Spidey 3 got trashed by the press.

It needs to make money for R rating. Willis wants to do a 5th. If this does well they'd be more willing to let R happen next time. Ala Aliens vs. Predator.

The rating doesn't affect the fan base, if anything they created bad buzz around it with the PG-13 rating. I don't get why Fox has become so goddamn pussy. T3 was rated R and made $150 million.

I saw an action sequence from the film with NO BLOOD. WHAT THE FUCK. AND NO MCCLANE CURSING.

Die Hard is dead. It fucking forsakes the name for fucks sake. With a name like Die Hard, you expect some R rated shit to go down. Not in this latest watered down aborted fetus.

my impressions for those who don't read GAF:

Well I saw it for free! Me and my boys were by the movies, and they said the debit card machine was broken, and we were like wtf? So we went inside to ask our friends for money, and we were just like...well **** it we're in

OMG SO AWESOME.

BUT BUT BUT

1.) The gritty feel is kind of gone...well that's to be assumed as the 90's had that old school kind of feeling. The computer thing makes it a bit toooooo sleek.

2.) It felt kinna like RE4. Like McClain was babysitting Ashley...only Ashley with somewhat of a smartass tone, and some spine - I prefer him alone, although the two had some pretty great moments, and the chemistry was there.

3.) NO F WORD?!?!! Omg throughout the whole movie where was my Die Hard ****s? I needed at least some in there...even the Yippie Ki Yeah Mother****er was kinna of blurred so you heard it, but you didn't.

4.) The Asian bitch IS CRAZY!!!! She was like the coolest part of the movie - also McClain's daughter is hot.

Overall I liked it, but it seemed like it could literally have been ANY movie with McClain slapped in.

I would have liked a bit more referencing or older characters from Die Hard too...no Sam Jackson? tsc tsc

Quote from: TJ Bennett
Ok, I just got back from the movie and I need to put in my two cents.

The movie is terrible.

Die Hard is my favorite action movie of all-time and I've seen it too many times to count. I'm a fan of the sequels as well, although to a much lesser degree. I had seen sections of Live Free or Die Hard in recent months as the editorial office for the film was right next door to my office. Every glimpse of the movie I saw felt a bit off and felt far removed from the first three films. Obviously the PG-13 rating was a huge warning sign, but aside from that the biggest concern I had with the footage is that the characters and situations felt like they would be more at home in a Jason Statham movie.

My biggest gripe with Die Hard 4.0 is the completely forgettable lineup of villains. Timothy Olyphant never feels like a threat to McClane and lacks any of the charm that made Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons so fun to watch. Maggie Q is a pretty face and little else (not to mention the attempt at the relationship between her character and Olyphant's was completely laughable). Oh and there's also a character who thinks he's Spider-Man.

On a technical level the movie is a mixed bag. The special effects are well done throughout although a bit too reliant on computer wizardry instead of old fashioned pyrotechnics. Where you really notice the PG-13 rating is in the exclusion of bits of dialogue that will likely appear on the unrated dvd. It's a mess to watch as you'll see a character's mouth moving and they cut to a wide shot and there's no dialogue to be heard. At other times the ADR lines are put in shots where the character's mouth is not moving. The editing out of the language made me feel like I was watching a stillborn version of Die Hard 2 on TNT.

McClane gets a bit bloodied and bruised over the course of the movie, but despite some rather long falls he gets up and walks away like he's the T-1000. It's a far cry from the bloody feet in the original and at no point during the 2 hour + running time do you actually feel like McClane is vulernable.

I'm exhausted from just thinking about this movie.

They cut the balls of off Die Hard.

Dammit.
