I brought my ipad on vacation and played a bunch of stuff!
868-Hack - So f'ing good! I spent a few nights up until 3am while my gf slept playing this lol The game is a lot of what I love about rogues and done really well. If only the points had a use besides leaderboards. Like if you could buy things with points. I could see a sequel with a little more fleshing out be even better. Fantastic rogue and best game I've played on my ipad.
Year Walk -
I like artsy games. I like Ico! I'm usually very pro art through game medium. I also like adventure games! But sometimes a game is so artsy and so little game it's just fucking awfullllll (like Tale of Tales, The Path, for instance). I still haven't finished this, because I hate it, but I will force myself through it just out of curiosity eventually.
Ridiculous Fishing - Alright. Pretty fun, has a bit of upgrades and stuff to make it a little more compelling, but still felt like the 90 second iOS game experience and I got pretty bored of it by the partway through the 2nd area. It's a good game, just not really my type of game as I need stuff to be a little more compelling.
Beat Sneak Beat - Honestly this is a good game but I've always been pretty bad at rhythm games so it just sort of got frustrating. I generally like it, but again I feel it needs a little more to it and is a bit too simple and iOS like. I mean I suck at rhythm but I love the shit out of Rhythm Tengoku and music games. This just got kind of trial and error tedious.
Puzzles and Dragons - Pretty good game. I liked it a good deal and my gf got insanely addicted to it on her phone during the trip (she'd always be playing it), but at one point I stepped back after a few days and realized that everything was a grind towards a grind towards a grind and what was the point? And that was when I walked away from P&D. I think maybe I'd like the 3DS one more; maybe; need to read up on it.
Chaos Rings II - Only played a little of this but fuckkkk the music is amazing. Love those epic choir rpg soundtracks. Game runs at like 15fps on my ipad 2 which is how Chaos Rings 1 ran on my iphone 3 lol. Seems alright and closer to being a real legit jrpg. I think I might wait until I upgrade to the latest ipad in a year or two and then play it at a smooth 60fps.
Angry Birds Star Wars II - Yep, still have no interest in this franchise after like 5 mins.
Skulls of the Shogun - I got this on PC months ago, but sorry sho'nuff, I still haven't gotten around to playing it
I did start playing it on my ipad though and did the first chapter and it was pretty fun. Will play more for sure. Seems like a good strategy game.
Device 6 - I've only played the first chapter but...I like it! Very neat visual novel/puzzle game mix. Seemed a bit gimmicky at first but by the end of the chapter I was impressed. Especially because the two puzzles in the chapter are REALLY smart. Like, it made me feel dumb. Looking forward to playing the rest of this.
And I also messed around with the Comic Zeal comic book app and read through The Losers, which was very enjoyable and I think the ipad is going to make me get back into American comics after being away for 20 years. The only things I've read in the last two decades are Y: The Last Man, The Losers, Batman Year One and All-Star Superman. The first two were great, latter was...Batman and Superman (I prefer original series I think). Any recommendations?
